Default Grady/Yamaha service in CT or MA- Help

A good friend had his Grady give him some grief over the weekend. I believe it was actually the Yamaha which caused all the problems.

Please note it's a 10 year old boat/motor and the Voltage Regulator fried/melted a lot of stuff. Here is his quote: "Battery cables
got hot and melted, as did the hydraulic steering hoses, gas lines, etc."

Anyone have any experience with either Boats Inc in Niantic CT or Gifford Marine in S. Dartmouth, MA?

Thanks for helping out. Any feedback is appreciated.

Boats Inc. to me seemed very competent, but the prices are a bit high. I was just there and saw a 1998 Grady 208 Adventure going for $32,800 which just confirms that they are not cheap. IMO

I have never delt with Boats Inc. personally, but from what I hear they do very good work however, it does not come cheap.

I have read good things in another board about Boats INC in Niantic, Mike or Pete in service. 860-739-5444. Sounds like the place to go!!!

Bought my motor from Boats Inc. Top quality dealer and mechanics. They do know their Grady' s and there Yamaha's well. I would definitely reccommend them.

Boats Inc is a first class operation, superb customer service. Take it there only if you want the job done right the first time.

Was the boat really hard to start? (like the battery was dead.)

From his quote and the age of the engine. The problem sounds like the battery harness for his Yamaha engine. When the cables get corroded, the resistance will heat up and melt everything around them. He's lucky the boat didn't go up in flames. You don't need a grady dealer to solve this problem.

Where is the boat located?

Firefly:

Try Baert Marine in Danvers, a dealer for both Yummies and Grady Whites. My brother bought a used Grady from them and had an OB issue months later. They sent a service Tech to his boat and not only fixed the 1 OB with the problem, they replaced the problem part on the 2nd outboard to "prevent" it from being a problem.

I bought a 2 year old trailer from them this spring and I was treated as if I just bought a $100K Grady. I cannot praise their service excellence enough !

Thanks for all the suggestions- I passed them along to my friend Tom. He was going to a couple of places yesterday but I don't know how he made out.

Bigshrimp- I don't know but I'll ask him. I've been on the boat once and it seemed to fire right up on that occasion.
