Default RE: New to boating

Just finished the first session of my boat safety class last night. I spoke to the captain teaching the class and another one of the students with more experience than myself. It seems that (for now at least) I should go with a stern drive or an outboard due to ease of maintainence and trailering. He also advised that the fishing boat would probably be sturdier than the cruising boat, making it better for a new boater.

As far a surveying is concerned he will give me that number of someone he knows. I'll also post THT when I'm ready to buy.

"fishing boat would probably be sturdier than the cruising boat, making it better for a new boater."

There is some truth to that. However the difference is not so great that it would justify paying a whole lot more money for the fishing boat over a pleasure boat. New boaters rarely stick with their first boat for a long time (even though they expect to keep it for years and years). So in a practical sense the best boat for a new boater is the one that will be easiest to sell. Regardless of whether it's a fishing boat or a pleasure boat. When you are going to "flip" a boat, the $$ you pay are important. If it happened that I could get a good deal on a pleasure boat, while all the fishing boats wanted high prices, then the pleasure boat makes sense. Really depends on the deals you actually find on the market.

Default RE: New to boating

After much research, I finally settled on a make and model.

Trophy 2359 hardtop.

How does this boat usually perform?
Is it good for a new boater?
