Default Idle too fast? 1200RPM - Johnson Outboard- Help?

95 Johnson 175 - I just placed the Optical Sensor and the timing wheel (broke the first wheel when I was changing the senor) and now the engine starts great but idles around 1200 rpms. Actually seems to jump from a 1000 to 1200. Normally (before I messed with it) idled around 700-800 which seemed perfect.

Anyone know how to adjust the idle or anyone know if its a bigger issue, perhaps the timing is off now? Thanks for your relpies.

Is the spring returning the timing arm all the way? Also... It will idle higher out of the water with no backpressure if you are running it on the hose.

Just got my 01 Johnson back from the shop yesterday after having a temp sensor replaced. Got it home and it was doing exactly the same thing you describe. It idles at 1,000 but every few seconds it jumps up to 1,200 for a second. Took it back to the shop this morning. Waiting to hear from the mechanic...

To the first reply, The is on the dock so its idling high in the water, no hose.

2nd Post - Please let me know what the shop says... Exact same item, 1000 then every couple of seconds, jumps slightly higher. 1000 seems high anyway but PLEASE let me know...

THANKS Guys!!
