Default Skeeter Bay Boats?

Talking to a guy about his 2001 22' Skeeter Bay Boat w/ a 200 HPDI?

Curious if anyone has any opinions on this boat and setup? Hows the Ride, layout, construction, etc.

Any opinions are appreciated.

I have looked at them and IMO they are very nice boats. Almost purchased the 20 ft. bay boat two years ago but wanted something a little longer. The 22 was a little out of my price range.

Well My '03 zx2200 is great in chop as long as you have a "matched" prop I drove it for 2 seasons with factory wheel it came with... original 21p but I changed to 19p both from dealer but still something was missing like a really good ride... 02' 225 optimax revs were 5300-5400 and not much "lift" and turning hard at all lost bite horribly...but NOW 70.00$ gave me a new Boat IN CHOP ...having the prop "Tuned" made nite and day difference... the entire boat NOT just rear lifted to get the Bottom "V" doing its JOB revs ALSO went to 5600 ( normal 4000 cruise went to 38 mph on GPS I almost NEVER go to WOT ) after two more seasons with this prop I LOVE my skeeter and the water gets plenty UGLY in lake pelto and timbalier bay as well as offshore and on barrier island beaches...economy is wonderful normal trips are 15-18 gallons out of Co-Co- marina if I keep it at 3800-4000....BUT my boat is no longer offered in zx2200 (high sides) guess it looked too much like TUB but not to me!
now you get zx2200 bay and even a new model is offered zx2200v not sure what it means but the sides are Lower by maybe 4-6 inches and to me you need all you have for nasty chop freeboard and "DRY" but still be a BAY BOAT... skeeter is a HEAVY bay boat but SOLID it is. The new models have good improvements such as a highspeed water pickup for bait well... mine is NOT If anybody knows of an aftermarket version of (shield) pickup to give my '02 zx2200 a wet baitwell at speed please tell me I fish bait alot in spring-summer for LARGE specks. the console has also been improved as well as storage in it...if I had to do it again get the 2400 with largest motor you can find the extra length makes a difference in chop...4 stks are taking over but an OPTIMAX or HPDI is hard to beat... the new E-techs are super quiet but not sure of "LIFE" yet...
ALL 4 stks are QUIET.. my optimax has been referred to as a punk-rock band riding in back even at idle but "Serious" it is !!! AND DEPENDABLE after 51 months and 208 hrs it has been awesome ....ALL bay boatsd are Expensive as hell and SKETTER is no slouch in PRICE... there are several out there to choose from...but thats the FUN of getting a BAY BOAT Decisions decisions.....good luck and get it wet NOW they are biting NOW !!

Thanks Clutch

This boat is a 2002 2200ZX with a 200 HPDI - 200'ish hours.

What do you think I will see for speeds? Not looking for a speed demon, but don't want to crawl and want enough ponies to pull a tube some.

Do you think the boat can runupper 40's at WOT and cruise around 35?

I met up with a business customer last year and fished out of his. The boat porpoised badly unles the engine was trimmed all the way in That trim position caused the bow to plow and resulted in a VERY wet ride. Needless to say, I thought the ride was crap.

I went out with a guide on one and found the ride to be rough the boat pounded more than I would have expected. I bought a shearwater instead. My buddy had a skeeter bass boat and loved it he sold it after more than 10 years for almost what he paid for it!
