Default Older Pro-Line Quality (1988 Pro-Line 21 CC)

I am looking to pickup an older rig to fix up and repower. I honestly like working on my current boat as much or more than actually using it (this is true of most things in my life)

Anyways, I have been searching for some time and found this ad:
http://www.jettsmarine.com/searcheng...r=ASC&page=1&#

I love the lines and it is the perfect size and configuration for the project I have in mind. So, are there any general comments about this vintage Pro-Line? Short of the normal things to be aware of in a 20 year old boat, is there anything special to be aware of on older Pro-Lines?

Muchos Gracias!!

Dave.

Dave,

I have a1987 23 walk around Proline with a bracket and still fish it as often as i can. I have a 2001 HPDI for power. Mine is a rough riding son of a gun in the 2' - 3' chop we typically have around here. It still is a solid boat, no rot in the transom yet but there are s few gelcoat cracks and some of the small fasteners tend to loosen occasionally. I was out 60 miles in it a few weeks ago. Its no speed demon but I am OK with that.

I had a 1988 proline walk around with the same OMC out drive that is on the boat you are looking at. If you are going to run it in salt water run , do not stop. Run as if your life depended on it. The boat is fine and I now own a Proline 202 DC with an merc. 150 outboard.
The four years I owned it I went through two sets of manifolds. The have a flaw in the top of the manifold at the top of the elbow. Please fell free to email me if you have any other questions

Dog- I would repower with a new Zuke. I am most interested in the quality of the hull and any known issues. Would you mine emailing me at: ernesto.hemingway@gmail.com?

Does anyone else have any comments?

Hi Dave,
There are many people who do not like Pro-Line boats from the 80's. There is some good reasoning for that. Mostly that there is guite a bit of exposed wood if you take a good look under the deck... and that wood can rot. Rotten stringers have also been a problem for some...that can be a big problem.

However, I have a 1986 21' cuddy that has been well cared for (by me!) since it was new. It was and is a great boat. Great ride, very strong hull, handles well. Basically no problems in 20 years of service.

Get a good survey done on that boat.

Best wishes,
Dave
