Default idle rpm

i got my boat back the other day took it out umm it idles great if i hook it up to the hose but still a little low i took it out and when it idles it stalls unless i give it more gas is this because of the extra pressure or force of the water against the prop when i took it out should i turn the idle up higher will this fix the problem i think the idle now is at 850 deff below 1000 rpm

What kind of motor and what are the manf specs? My Suzuki's idle at 300 or so and don't die when I put it in gear.

hahah its like a car so im guessing the force of the water is causing the idle to be lower than it should be

Mercruiser outdrive? If the shift cable is stiff and it takes too long to shift, the ignition interrupt system can stall the motor out. 650-700 rpm in gear is right for most v8's, regardless of manuf.

My other boat with twin 350's with inboard,I had to set the rpms at 800,props were dropping them out to low when shifting.no problems after that.
