Default What's the most useful gadget you have on your boat under $50.

I just bought a used 202 Scout SF. It is literally ready to drop in the water and fish. The seller was getting married and sold everything including his fishing tackle. This just got me thinking about the little things that
make boating or fishing easier. i.e. I always
carry a set or two of hemostats with me whenever I
go fishing. They have a million and one uses and
if you know someone in the medical field they can
usually get you a used set for free. Just wondering about your input.

Hmmm I'd have to say that it depends upon your circumstances..
For instance.. if your sinking I'd say a bilge pump, or life jacket.

If you were lost with no land refferance in a white out I'd say a compass.

If you starving and out of gas I'd have to say a grill certainly would be nice.

Sabaki rigs..
A hamock off that tower to the bow cleat w/ a beer(and beer coolie cup) would definately be under fifty bucks!

A spare battery...

A leatherman....

Flare gun...

Just kidding around... kind of (wink)

There ain't no way in hell I'd sell my boat to marry a woman . That being said I was not aware that anything on or related to a boat could cost under fifty bucks

Rainmaker, that cracked me up!

There ain't no way in hell I'd sell my boat to marry a woman

I guess the real question is whether or not you'd sell your wife for a new boat!
<grin>

The tool kit is the way to go for the fifty bucks!

Now not having spent that fifty on that spare tool box dedicated to the boat:

Imagine that the last thing you do in that early morning while your regular tool box is sitting on the table is to grab your coffee and hit the road.
You get about 22 miles off shore and your steering cable starts slipping and as you say your first prayer to the fish gods it sheers at the helm..and you don't have your fifty dollar gadget box to undue that cable at the helm or the engine.
After that five hour ride back in holding onto the cowling & wrestling the torque of that 225HP beast you'll know where that next fifty bucks will go!
Sometimes the truth hurts almost to much to talk about it. Sniffle sniffle.. thanks for listening LOL I feel so much better now... <grin>

I made a "bow coupler"! It propably cost no more than $5.oo. It's a 3' semi-rigid spring loaded arm that hooks to my bow cleat. Once it makes contact I reverse engine and swing the stern in towards the dock. All I have to do is tie the stern line and that's it! It's great when the wind is blowing me away from the dock and I'm alone.
Other useful things are my 5 gallon gas jugs. I adapted 3' of garden hose to the spouts for easy fill-ups. It sure beats buying gas on the water!
