I am considering repowering my 27 grady with new johnson 200's. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their opinins on the motors. We fish pretty hard so a reliable motor is a must

I have a 150 hp johnson. the motor runs very good, very reliable. starts on first turn of the key every time. maintenance is simple.
downside: gas guzzler.

I ran a set of 200 ocean pros for two years. They were extremely reliable and very fast. As long as you can afford the fuel, you'll be very happy with these engines

I can tell gas must be a real concern. The trip out from charleston is about 60 miles one way. In cluding trolling we usually travel anywhere from 120 to 150 miles in a day. The tank holds 200 gallons. Do you think we would be alright for such long trips with these motors.

Havent seen the 2003 line up yet, but 2002 Bomb Johnsons only go to 175HP.

Anyone seen the 2003 model list yet, are the big V6s back in the Johnson line up?

Twin 200's. 200 gallons on a heavy 27'. Total expected trip 150 miles. Use the 1/3 rule. 1/3 out, 1/3 back, 1/3 reserve for safety. Assume you get 1.0 mpg (overly cautious estimate - I assume you are going to be running + 4000RPMS for the 120 miles there and ******. Total range is 200 miles on a full tank. I wouldn't do it. Then again I don't like to take any chances that far out. If I had the DFI's or Four Strokes - yes. Almost double your range. Good luck.

For 2003 the 2 stroke Johnson line up is from 4 to 175hp. For 4 stroke it is from 4 to 140hp. Evinrude is 75 thru 250hp and a 3 year full warranty. Johnson 2 stroke is 2 years and 3 years for the 4 strokes.

The 140 Suzy with Johnson colors,eh. That will be keeping Yamaha corporate up late night.

Not to mention a 250 Rude, wonder how many they'll give to the TV bass guys.

Bobber,

The bass pros have run them since last October. They use the HO version that has a neat deep metallic blue with a stars and stripes swirl on the cover.

Do you see a big difference between a Merc EFI 200 and a Johnson 200 regarding gas mileage?
