I think it would make difference if you were going to trl the boat or leave it in the water.
Some jet boats I know of, like the smaller SeaDoos can not be left in the water.

The guys here know alot but the attached link is to a jet boat site, there is alot of info available there

My wife and kids are pushing the Yamaha SR230 jet boat. I dont fish much, so I am too, debating this. I can tell you this, if you do get a jet boat the best one seems to be the Yamaha SR230. For 27k you get a 23 foot boat, trailable, with trailer, with twin engines, both yamaha 4 stroke, and transom lounge seating. Check them out at www.yamaha-motor.com. This jet boat seems different than all the others. This one has 20 degree deadrise, and a more substantive hull. There have been numerous reviews of late. For example check out the review in the August 2003 Trailer boat magazine. Please let me know if you rule this out or in and why. It could help me decide as well. Crazy, but if i dont get the SR230 I am gonna get a Dusky 233 or a SeaSwirl 2301, which I know are so very different. Go figure.

P.S. I rented the 20 foot yamaha jet boat. I would not get that one. The 20 foot was atleast last year, were called the LS2000 or LX2000, these boats dont have the same hull or deadrise and were not as "oceanworthy". Jet boats are hard to control at slow speed. Also you have to clean out the pumps ever so often. But boy do they accelerate! Never have to worry about an exposed prop. Lots of pros and lots of cons I guess.

The biggest downside on most jet boats, desides low speed manuvering, is they use a lot of gas. If your just a weekend boater this may not be an issue.

For your boating area, I think the SR230 would be better.
