Default Steering tie bar adjust

I have a twin setup and want to adjust the motor allignment to see if there is anything to be gained going in or out, there currently about a 1/2" toe out I do not know how much deflection I get at speed thou...can I really remove the tie bar at speed to adjust?? I would think the motors would pull into each other causing serious damage to the props

how many have tried this?

I know it sounds strange, but you can remove the tie bar at speed. The first time I did it, I expected disaster and nothing happened except the loose motor moved about a degree and stayed there. You can turn the wheel with 'em disconnected and they track just fine. I would not recommend it in reverse, but in forward, the engines have enough "caster" that they track each other perfectly. Drop the tie bar, adjust it and put it back on. The process of hanging out on the swim step is interesting, but works.

I did it the same way as kerno described, with the admiral at the wheel I adjusted the bar.

No problems at all ! ButI did not gain speed as I first thought.
