It is amazing what a high thrust 8 or 9,9 will do. Many twin set ups will not plane on 1. Displacement hull speed is displacement speed with 10 horse or 100 horse.
I agree with the floater especially if you slow troll or position in current or wind, Very economical.A 2320 will do fine with a kicker.
I have 2 . One on a 27 walk with remote autopilot for trolling. The other in tandem steer on a 24 cc..Both have long shaft power trim electric and rope start and high output (10 amp) alternators. Great safety features. 115 lbs.
If you repower go 250 yam or 300 zuke and kicker.
You will fly ...safe and as economical as possible at that speed.

Default Re: electric vs. hydraulic actuator trim tabs

I own a Robalo 95 with all originqal Insta Trim Boat Leveler hydraulic tabs and it has worked better than I ever espected for all these years..if electric tabs can come even close to that without any problems they would earn my respect.

I have a fishing buddy that thinks I'm nuts for going out 20+ miles in a single engine boat. Same fishing buddy never gives a second thought in taking off in a single engine airplane. As for me, I'd rather be sitting dead in the water than in an airplane with a dead engine. I rely on keeping my boat in good condition, and staying in an area that is within radio distance to other boaters.

I went from a single engine boat to a twin engine boat. Fishing out 40 to 50 miles its the only opinion as far as I am concerned. Modern outboards are very reliable, but to me buying a single and a kicker doesn't really save you that much money and you still have two motors to maintain. Also, most people dont use their kickers and they may not even work when needed. We wont even talk about the looks...

Looks ? Wild thang , is that radioactive green or Yellow ?
Maybe the florida sun makes her a beaut, but on the left coast salmon and maybe even Orcas would flee.

Different strokes for different folks..I have found that I rarely agree with much of anything on the Left Coast anyway...

Sea-r-cy,

Twin engine airplanes have a higher accident mortality rate. Go figure... I'm comfortable with singles there too.

FWIW, love the "fighting lady yellow", as it's called here. A classic old school charter color. Beautiful.

Not with aircraft certified to operate single engine. Basic twins for general aviation that you point out are the killers plus low piloting skills, emphasis-piloting skills. The aircraft you are talking about are not certified to fly single engine and the stats are general aviation based.

Industry wide, you will find twins the standard and the lowest incident/accident rate.

A boat with twins loses an engine, the worst case is not being able to plane, long time home. All systems should still be operational. If the weather is good, stop, drift and think about it. Maybe call Sea Tow.

You are not even close or accurate with your analogy.

Epirb doesn't do much if you just break down.
