Default How much would you pay to have you boat waxed??

I am interested in hearing some opinions on what is a fair price to have someone come wax the hull of you boat. Now I am just talking the hull no top sides, hit it with a fiberglass cleaner then a coat of wax. What do you feel would be a fair price to do that.........

I have a 31' Fountain Te.....I think a fair price is around $550

Not oxidized? Maybe $200 at most. I did my Pursuit a month ago and it only took about 6 hours for the outside of the hull.

If I could wax 2 boats a day for that amount, I could make two hundred thousand dollars a year working 200 days a year. If I thought the guy waxing my boat was making 200 grand waxing boats, I'd figure he was making too much money.

humm......my buddy just got his 38 ft nortic tug waxed at a marina and got a bill for $2k. I would pay some one $550 to wax a 31ft boat that seems fair to me. and maybe a $100 for the topside. but to use a fiberglass cleaner to get all the scuff's off and minor oxidization then put a coat of wax on takes about 14 to 15 hours to do correctly.

14 to 15 hours? Are you using a buffer or a toothbrush?

This topic is an interesting one. There are those folks take great care of their boats and those who just want to use the boat and perform the least amount of work.

YES, $550 is a good price, 14/15 hours is a good estimate, but you can always cut corners and just do it in a 2/3 hours say $50 per hour, there you have it for $150.

What would I pay? In my case I do it myself, once ever year or two depending on use.

If you had this business and the going price is $10 per foot and add for other items, then you can easily see that $550 is cheap for a 31 foot boat (approx. $18 per foot) for deep clean & wax.

I got a few quotes around 500 bucks to buff and wax a couple of boats.Hull only. So I would say that's about right.Trouble is,none of them knew what they were doing, and did NOT get the hull to shine. I tried myself and also failed. Finally sought advice from a pro,and tried it again. Wow! Came out great. If they don't have the correct equipment and products,it will not work. Anybody can wax a boat, not many can bring a dull one back and make it shine.Don't even talk to auto detailers, they don't have a clue.

The top and cockpit take much longer for me than the outside of the hull because they usually have more oxidation and they have a lot more small areas that can't be done with the high speed buffer/polisher. The outside of the hull goes very quickly even if it's got a little oxidation (which it doesn't) with the high speed buffer and 3M fiberglass restorer or cleaner and wax.

The outside hull takes 5-6 hours total, the inside takes 8-10 hours total (including the brightwork).

AC, right on the nail.
The 2nd trick and learning experience is how long will it last, 3mo, 6 mo, or a year?
Get the best stuff you can possibly buy, as much as I hate this kind of work, but if you have to sweat and tears, then minimize the number of times.

that is what im saying!! for a good fiberglass cleaning and a good wax job it really is not an easy task. anyone can slap a coat of wax on and go in a few hours. once it's done the right way there is such a difference....

Down here in south Louisiana the going rate is $13-$15 dollars a foot for the hull the the same for the top side unless there is a ton of detail then the price goes up.

we all bitch about our mechanics etc... do you think the guy doing the wax job will do a great job? You would do a lot better yourself. Spend a day at the marina have a few beers wax teh boat. Is quite enjoyable too

if you can wax a 31 contender in under an hour your not doing it correctly. i can't beleive you think $500 is out of hand to wax a 31' boat, that is what is cost to get a good wax job, plus the fiberglass cleaning.
