Default Stringing up a T-Top

I finally found some black parachute string at Gander Mountain to replace that crappy kite string that holds the sunbrella to the T-Top. One thing I have noticed is I am able to pull the sunbrella tighter with this string.

So how tight should I string the sunbrella to the T-Top? I've got it pretty tight right now but I could go tighter.

Let me ask a better question. Should I pull it as tight as I can or should I leave a certain amount of slack in the string?

If you go to the Smith products website I think they have a lacing procedure for lacing up the canvas, http://www.cesmithco.com
Good luck

Tight your sunbrella once it get wet and is on for a bit will streach out. you may want to retighten it. when it drys in the sun it will shrink back also. here how i lace my tops you get a even 3 way pull on the grommets.

go tight.

It is better for the canvas because there is less wear and tear due to flapping

Good info at this post.

I started in the front middle and went back on one side then the other. Used vise grips to hold the rope while I worked down one side. That way you start off pulling only 1/2 the rope through each hole. Did not tighten real tight first go around then came back with a large screw driver for a lever and tighten as tight as I could.

That is the way we lace them on at our shop. Go as tight as humanly possible.

Thanks for the replies. That diagram is how I'm lacing mine up. I wish I would have thought to start at the front and work down both sides. That would have saved a lot of time. That was a good link too.

I've got it as tight as I can get it. It's like a drum.
