Default Caralina Classic Vs. Albemarle 268

Mike:

*You're* far away? I'm across the international border in Toronto and I have no problem purchasing from Todd in Ohio. That's about seven hours away. I will also get any warranty work done here and Albemarle will cover it. I wouldn't refuse to purchase a boat because it's not local. There are too many horror stories about bad local dealers on THT.

Ian;
to be honest I'd like to hear more opinions on buying from a dealer 3-4 hours or more away from my home. I've been warned that the warranty would be a nightmare. I'm not suggesting I buy something local even if the local guy has a bad rap. Just looking for the best of all worlds.

Both the Carolina and the Alby are fine craft so which to consider? Before you do consider a cat, I recently completed a week trip across Florida straits, 150 miles one way, on a World Cat 27te, it is superior to monos in every way, cruised at 32-35mph in the chop, honda motors performed flawlessly, great stable ride and room to fish...beautiful fit and finish and well appointed, I have had 8 other boats and none compare, this one isn't mine, i just navigated, I own a twin vee and am totally sold on the idea...don't take my word for it, if you are spending nearly 100K you need to check them out...world cat, glacier bay, twin vee, prokat, seacat, whatever..do it...Mick

I did exactly that, and so far no regrets. I did get a lot of positive recommendations from the dealer I bought from though (South Shore in Huron, Ohio).
I think that in the end it depends on your comfort level with the particular dealer and your comfort level with the quality of the boat you are buying,

Both mfr are class acts. Why not call them and relay your fears and suggest they allow warranty and service work be done at a local yard? Or at least one that is authorized by the engine mfr.

Hi,
New to the board. I just went through about a year and a half's worth of research on both the 268 alby and the 25 CC. Botom line is that both boats are build like tanks. The difference comes in the price and set up. The alby has a few more cabin features and cruising type ammenaties where the CC is for fishing only. The 268 will run you just under a 100K with a gas motor and they have not completly solved the water intake problems that ruined so many 7.4L motors in the late 90's. I just bought a 25CC with a KAMD 300 Volvo and it will cruise 27-28 knots loaded buring around 10-11 gal per hour. The gas motor in the alby will not touch this. The CC is about 20K less. I live in Stevensville, MD you are welcome to ride/ fish one day this sping. The boat is a tank i have already fished here 8 times this winter off the coast of VA.

IMHO the gas/diesel issue is not relevant. Both boats have engine/outdrive options to suit your needs and requirements. And I believe those early water injestion issues were found on the Carolina Classics as well as other manufactuers' designs.
