Default Yamaha 200 ox66 Break in help please

This is my first Yamaha engine. AI have always run OMC in the past and they would double the amount of 2 cycle oil for some period of time during break in. Is this standard procedure for Yamaha? ( I don't have the owners manual yet)but I want to start out right.

I have also read of the virtues of Ring free on this forum and others. I am not familiar with this product. Is it necessary

Thanks

Both subjects will catch you a bit of flack.

Suggest you follow your Yamaha manual to the letter on break-in and servicing schedule. I do not believe double oil is called for any longer, as your new motor is set to oil more heavily and is to be adjusted at 20 hours. Your manual will explain. Read it and follow the procedure. Don't guess at this stuff.

Do a site search on RingFree. Lots of good discussion here. Some, like me, use it religiously, some just decarb on a routine basis. You'll have to decide this one for yourself.

Sorry, didn't pick up on the no manual thing. Why no manual??? I'd go to the dealer and ask if you could copy the break-in procedure from the appropriate manual until you get yours.

If my memory serves me right it is 10 hours. You need to make the fuel tank at a 100 to 1 mixture along with the oil injection operating. First hour, like 1500 to 2000 rpm varing RPM slightly. Second hour then like 2500. Third hour up to like 3000 varing speeds the whole time somewhat so the engine is not running at a steady RPM for very long. After three hours or so I think you are safe to open it up briefly not steady. Just be sure and baby it the first five hours and you'll be ok. You run it with the added oil inthe fuel for the first ten hours. Also call a dealer to double check my post. I think I'm fairly close..

On the OX66 you have to run Double Oil the first 10hour's like Cracker is explaining. The OX66 does not do it for you.

Team Binnion, I'm pretty darn sure that was the same procedure I went through myself (double oil), but was told by several posters that I was wrong to do so. Several others said that I was right.

Things may have changed since '98. You might think, "What could double oil hurt?". Sensor readings, perhaps. Sensors really don't like additives.

Suggest you read break-in procedures carefully before adding oil to the fuel tank. Very simple precaution. Good Luck, guy.

cgrand did good by posting the manual.

Page 3-10 will say "premix must be used..."

This is the same as we did on our 250HP OX66 last year. Dealer provided us with 60 gallons mixed 50:1 and we were told that, with the 50:1 injected by the engine, we were getting an effective 25:1 or double-oiling for the break-in.

The 60 gallons didn't last the required ten (10) hours, so we added a bit more gas and premixed oil at 50:1. Once we passed the ten hours, we filled the tank (150 gallons) to dilute the oil. First service was at 20 hours.

Good luck with the new ride.
