Default Any Boston Whaler guys know what this boat is worth??

Its a 1988 Boston Whaler 2500 Temptation. Read a little about it on continuos wave, but there does'nt seem to be much info on this boat. Doesn't look like alot were made.

This one has twin 200 yammies with 388 hours on them. Boat has never been in salt. Hull looks perfect and deck is solid. No cracks in any of the vinyl seats anywhere. The trailer is a 2004 dual with brakes.

Does anyone know what this boat should sell for????????

and yes I checked NADA but I always take their bluebook with a grain of salt when it comes to BW, Grady's, etc.

Any help is appreciated!!!

Tight lines, FH

Here are some pictures:

Very clean Whaler! Before you make an offer, decide if this boat is right for you. It will be very fast with twin 200's & this hull style handles like a sportscar on turns. It will burn a lot of gas. When my boat had twin 130 Yamaha 4-cylinder motors, it got under 2mpg at cruise. These are V-6 motors & the boat is longer & heavier than mine. It seems to be more of a ski boat than a fishing boat & that kind of defeats the purpose of a Whaler & may hurt the resale(this may be good for you if you want this boat). I personally, don't like the anti-fouling paint on a trailered boat. Check for possible waterlogged foam from being slipped. I personally wouldn't be interested in this model at any realistic price, but if I was I wouldn't pay much more than 12,000. I'd start my bidding less than that. If they want more, wait & get an Outrage or Revenge model. Just my 2 cents

Just so everyone is on an even keel. Whaler's don't get waterlogged from being in a slip, they get waterlogged from the top, meaning if holes in the deck weren't seeled right. After all, Whaler's were made to be in the water.

Outrage22Cuddy is probably right about the price. $10,000 to $12,000 should move it.

Thanks for the reply.

The boat wouldn't be for me. Was thinking about flipping this boat but want to find out what I could realistically sell it for. I have worked in the marine industry for 15 years but this boat stumped me. I had not seen one before. But I know that whalers hold very good resale value. I checked the structure of the boat very carefully. She is structurally perfect. The boat has reallt not been used much. The fact that the vinyl seats are original and have no cracks in them lets you know that this boat spent most of its life shrinkwraped.

I still don't know what to do with this one. Odd boat but carries a respected name.

Come on guys let hear some opinions

flip a used boat in this market??? are you crazy......the used market is soft. even if you got a deal, you would be sitting on it in all likelihood. not to mention you are trying to flip a boat for which there is probably little to no demand. for chrissakes, it looks like a duck billed platypus and it doesnt know whether to cruise or fish.....ya' aint skiing off it with twins......

be smart and pass on it unless they give it to you.

It is almost being given away and as far as I can see the used boat business is doing pretty well. New boats taken the brunt right now. I run a marketing business for used boats and my guys are selling their boats. Had a customer NC call me about 4 hours ago and say "Bob, you can take my Prokat of the market. Its on its way down to Texas!" That is the third boay I have sold for him in about 5 weeks time. The market in my area is about 75% pleasure boats and 25% fishing (that's not including tin boats) . I am thinking of passing on it. Gonna test compression tomorrow and have another look.

Thanks for the reply.

Whaler's feeble attempt at a sport boat.

I remember seeing that boat on display at a local show when it was new. Of course the dealer was highly touting it.

Unfortunately for him, he was still "touting" it more than a year later.

I heard that he finally had to give it away at a loss just to get rid of it.

Kind of reminds of the cat boat that GW came out with.

Remember, there's an azz for every seat. Someone will buy it.

Good luck!

The Temptation model is one of the few boston whalers models that are considered undesirable. I have seen a few 25 temps sit in South Florida in the 7 to 8000 range and not get touched. This is the wrong boat to flip. Now if it were an Outrage...........

Funny that the last guy mentiones the Grady Cat. That boat was a flop. However I am a cat guy and never been a BW fan at all. Someone else mentioned that the used boat market was flat right now. The last 4 boats I sold were cats. Even funnier is that I had 4 cats listed and six pages of mono hulls. The guy was giving this boat up for 6K But I think I will pass on it. Ugly boat IMO. I just thought that there would be another brainwashed BW guy out there that could'nt resist it because itsa whaler. I did find a 1985 Mako 21 CC at a storage facility for sale for $900 . Hull looked great. Needed a new console and leaner though. Did'nt get inside to step on the floor but I would personally take the mako over a whaler any day.

Always keeping my eye out fora good deal. Thought I would post about this whaler just because I had never heard of it before and that doesn't happen very often.

Gonna take me a while to get back to my 1000 plus posts status on here since Wiley closed my username for no justifiable reason. Atleast non that he gave me after asking him about 10 times. Never even returned my mail. Just so you guys know Fowlhook used to be foulhook on here.

Flipping this boat will require very high seas. It is rare and specialized. Doesn't mean it's bad as I have no opinion. Just know the market is very limited. If you don't want it for personal use, pass.

The Temptation, unfortunately was one of the least desirable Whalers made, because of their overall style and ride.

I think you are looking at a Whaler that has a poor ride, as they tend to slap more than most , styling not consistant with the Whaler reputation , not fishing style boat, and generally not well known or sought after.

I think those are solid reasons to avoid this one to "flip", unless you can pick it up for 5-6k and try to move it for maybe7-8k, even then it will take some work..........

Maybe it looks better in person, but wow, looks more like one of those kit cars where someone tried to turn a miata into a ferrari... there can't be much of a market for that.

I'm going to agree with the rest...the Temptation was not one of the better recieved boats Whaler put out...I think it was built on the same Outrage hull but the layout is completely different...Now, if you really wanted a project, you could pull the temptation top off to see what's under it...I had a 17' Newport that had decking all around...It would have been really easy to remove but the work to repair the gunnels was just a little much for me...

I'd just leave her alone...unless you get her for a really, really good price, but that's different...

Go to the whaler forum or check boattraderonline.com and you'll find what kind of market there is for that boat...

The Boston Whaler Temptation models were made on the exact same hulls that Whaler used for their other 20, 22 and 25 foot models. They were only produced between 1986 and 1989 and were made in small numbers because they were not popular. It was one of those good ideas that did not work out. I think they discovered the folks that are attracted to Whalers are not the go-fast crowd and folks that want a go-fast boat can do far better with something else built for the task.

Personally, I cant stand the idea of a gray Whaler with carpeting and burgundy upholstery. Not my style. Now having said that, the few guys I know that like their Temptations, REALLY like their Temptations, but is a really small micro-cult. As a result of all this, resale prices of used Temptations tends to be very low.

I've seen very few Whaler Temptations myself and agree with some of the comments above, Tom Clark, DWS, KnockerJoe and Aboater...I like the looks of the 25 Outrage but the Temptation just looks odd. It does have a closed transom and Whalerdrive bracket which is a nice option on the 25. I agree with DWS, pull the Temptation cuddy/top off and put a center console and t-top on it. Thats no small job though...Its probably worth $3000? Its Whalers poor attempt at a sportboat but, Looks aren't important to some boaters (just look at some of the cats) particularly those who just want to get out on the water with their family. A boater on a budget who wants a quality brand boat might pick it up? I suspect the 1988 motors will need some major maintenence with such low hours (thats alot of time sitting). Not worth trying to re-sale but who really knows except those in the business...Check out www.whalercentral.com

I would be sceptical with 20 year old motors with only 388 hours on them, I bet the guage doesnt even work.

Tom knows his stuff on Whalers. Unless you want to buy it as a collectors item (because there are so few) you'd probably best just stay away.
