Default Suzuki Outboard

I just posted a request for information on the Triumph 210 boat with a Mercury. The Suzuki is also offered for an even more competitive price with this boat. I would appreciate any comments or insight into the Suzuki Outboards. Thank you.

Here's a comment for you ... Suzuki makes the best outboards available. They are easily the most reliable and easily the most underrated of the pack. If you make the wise decision, and buy it with the Suzuki, you will not be sorry you did.

I have a 2000 200hp Suzuki(I bought it brand new in Feb of 2001,a left over.) and so far no problems.
This season I don't think I've "burned" more than 5 or six gallons of oil! I also like the oil injection system it has. A 9qt resivior built into it that is gravity feed, no extra pump so less could go wrong! And after two seasons in New England (salt), no corrosion anywhere! It looks factory new inside and out!

I own two suzukis, both of them 140 2 strokes and have been very satisfied with them and my dealer. They are smooth, quiet , and very dependable . Regularly (sp) have them 40+ miles offshore and never worry about not getting back. I agree with Thom , get the SUZUKI!

This is an awesome site. I had very little knowledge about this brand of motor and probably would have stayed clear of it. This gives me a whole new perspective and definitely helps in the decision making process. Thanks for the input. More is welcome.

I cant say I agree with Thom, thats a pretty bold statement {" Suzuki makes the best outboards available" }
I think there up there in the top 3 but after owning a new 70 Yamaha that ran flawlessly , & the fact that Honda makes a great 4 stroke too , its hard to state that Suzuki makes the BEST
One of the best, yes BUT I think I'd prefer a Yamaha on my next boat too.....
I bet Yamaha has better resale , easier to get parts ? service ect...

Not sure what a Triump 21 needs for power. I guess it a 21'er and your talking about a 225. Dont think they offer a 200 anymore. If its a 140 4s You might be on the weak side for a 21'er. What power packages are they offering?

Hawkeye, thanks for your reply. They are offering the 140 Suzuki or a 150 Mercury. The boat weighs 2100 lbs.

I need some imfo from you guy's that own 115-140 hp 4 strokes. Tell me about the guages that the factory put's with them. Tell me if I'm wrong here; 2-3 7/8in guages. 1 is the tach, 2 is the diagonists?[sp?] Give me some imfo here. I'm in the middle of building a dash board.

couple of things

You need more horsepower with the logic/ triumph 21.

If you don't opt for tabs, a planing foil gives you a fairly inexpensive way to trim your boat.

It needs a 175! If you want to cruise into the 30's.

Max rating is 200.

The suzuki 140 is a little shy of the mark on a dyno, and that is WOT.

Please go for a test ride with different power options, and trinm tabs if possible. My brother had one of the first logic 21's, it had a 175 Johnson, powered, but not overpowered

Novice: I agree with all of the above comments on Suzuki's quality and reliability, but you need more hp and torque on a 21 Triumph - that boat needs 6 cylinders. I fished on a 21 with a 150hp Merc and 150hp was OK, but the day we were out, the owner had to run the 150 almost wide open a lot just to keep it at the right cruising speed. My cousin "cat man" (above) is right on target - a 175 is the "right" engine for the Triumph 21.

While the 140 Suzuki may put the boat into your price range, you'll be disappointed at being underpowered.

A little factoid on Triumphs: Engine weight on "roto-molded" Triumphs is critical as they can not carry too much weight on the transom. Triumph is the only boat company I know who lists "maximum engine weight" along with maximum hp with each model - look at your catelogu

I bought a Yamaha 150 HPDI in April 2002 eventhough concerned about their 700 psi fuel system because of it being apotential reliability issue and would have bought a
Zusiki. Discovered that there are no Zusiki dealers in my immediate area and found that some Zusiki owners have had long lead problems when spare parts were needed for repair.

Don't know what the weight is on the 21' Triumph, but I can tell you the 140 Suzuki is perfect on my 20' Scout. Over 200 hours and zero problems.

little know facts about them.

Facts
Suzuki is the largest manufacture of outboards worldwide
First outboard to introduce hp ratings at prop and not at the flywheel.
First outboard to introduce oil injection.
First outboard to introduce gravity oil feeds after carb. That mean no oil pumps to brake.
First and only outboard to have a completly stainless steel water pump houseing. Others use alum. or plastic.
First and only outboard to have dual spark plugs for better fuel burn.
First outboard to introduce advanced Microlink™ ignition system to max. fuel to air ratio.(That means better fuel burn)
First outboard to introduce a engine monitor system w/ gauge.
First outboard to introduce EFI.
First outboard to introduce EFI on 4 strokes.
First outboard to introduce 140 4 stroke engine that weighs just 410 pounds fully rigged. That’s not only considerably less than competitive 2 stroke 140s and 150s, it’s less than Merc's 135 HP outboards!
First and only outboard to offer a 3yr warranty on all there engines and you could buy extended 3yrs that means 6 yrs of coverage. Also extended warranty is the cheapest to buy from the 5 major brands.(Yammie,Merc,Honda,bom(a.k.a Omc) and Suzuki).
In 2000 & 2001 Evinrude bought the 40hp,50hp,70hp 4 strokes from suzuki and painted it blue & stuck a evinrude sticker on them

Know let me tell you that I have been running suzuki's since 1988. The first suzuki
i bought was SE 200 hp. I ran it for 9 yrs. Put 2068 hrs, not one problem. In 1997 up graded to a 225 hp. Have 450 plus hrs not one promblem. In 1995 bought a skiff and install a suzuki 75 hp. Run it so hard that the skiff broke. So I bought a Flats boat and install the same 75 hp engine. It have 478 hrs, not one problem. All the suzuki I owned have been install and the reinstall on a new boat. 200 was on a wellcraft, reinstalled on a seawolf. 225 was on the seawolf reinstall on a mako. 75 was on sundance reinstall on a flats & bay. Are you looking at the 4 strokes or the 2 strokes? Suzuki makes good motors in both. However they announced recently they will be discontinueing all their 2 stroke models. They say they'll make parts for 8 years after that???

The one problem Suzuki has now is parts distribution. It'll get even worse for those with discontinued 2 stroke models. It might be why it's the cheapest option.

I have a 98 150 and love it. No problems other than PM.. Parts have not been an issue because she never breaks! If you are buying from a dealer they can get any part you need. Otherwise, www.brownspoint.com will get you anything. I ordered cylinder head temp sensor and pressure relief spring from them and they were delivered to my house in 3 days....

I had a pair of 2000 225's. Owned them for 2 years and had my share of problems. The counter rotator had shifting problems that Suzuki refused to correct. They both had corrosion problems and they both would shake like hell at 1100-1600 rpms. They also would occasionally stall and would be hard to start. These are just some of the highlights. Suzuki did not stand behind the warranty even after writing several letters to them - pathetic. I guess thses issues are no big deal to some but it was enough for me to sell the boat and never own another Suzuki product again.

On the positive side they ran great at cruising speeds..

I have a 2001 225 Suzuki on my 92 21 foot Pursuit CC. 90 hours, no problems. Starts every time I turn the key first time. Uses very little oil and burns far less gas than the 150 Johnson Ocean Runner that was on her before. The V-6 Suzuki outboards could be the best 2 stroke V-6's made. Dual Spark plugs never foul and provide excellent throttle response and allows the motor to idle very well.Straightforward EFI system, No shitty VRO pump to go out, no oil lines to clog or break. Burned up the 100 V-4 Evinrude on my old 17 Whaler because of the VRO failure. Have also met with fishing guides at Sanibel Island that claim to have over 2000 hours on Zuki 225's.
