Sorry it took so long to post what I learned about this boat, but its fishing season. Anyway, I had the opportunity to fish with Rob Hammer a month and pick his brain on the new boat that everyone is talking about. Unfortunately I was not able to ride it, since as his boat was being used in a tournament. However, I have talked with several people who have rode the boat some of which are Yellowfin, Sea Vee and Contender owners, and they all were extremely impressed. Several actually put there current boats on the market so they could purchase one. I expect to ride and fish one in the next couple months.
Design- The Hull was designed by Michael Peters Yacht design
http://www.mpyd.net/history.htm, hands down one of the best designers around with a proven race record. The hull is a stepped hull, and the steps feed back in to a tunnel. Apparently this provides a ride unlike any in the industry. Extremely soft, dry and FAST! One of my best friends rode one last week and was so impressed he ordered one on the spot. He was considering another 36 , but said the ride on the Invincible was even better.
Construction- The boat is Vacuum bagged which we know is a far superior method than any other for laying up. It is a cored hull, but the coring material used is much better than Balsa. Its a synthetic material which is impervious to water intrusion. Rob said that even if there was an issue causing water to get into the material is would not soak it up like wood. The Invincible uses aluminum tanks, that are epoxy coated. You'll never have any issues with corrosion or have to worry about fiberglass tank issues. The molds for the boat are made by Marine Concepts using state of the art five axis computerized router and cutting machines. This allows for unparallel fit and finish and assembled tolerances in the boat of less than half an inch. The stringer is a molded grid system; this gives the boat more strength as the bulkheads and stringers become one inseverable unit. The assemblage is then tapered to create even more stability. The pieces are then bonded using
methacrylate adhesive, creating a bond that is stronger than the pieces themselves. I don't think there is another boat using this much technology and attention to detail in the industry.
As you can see everything is extremely well though out. Diamond non-skid and a raised deck for better fish ability. Huge fish boxes 600 and 720 quart. 50 and 60 gallon livewells plumbed to a sea chest and oversized bilge pumps. The fishing features are too many to list.
I can't wait to fish her in the next couple months. There is also a 33 in the works thats supposed to out run, out perform, and get better fuel numbers than any of the other 33's out there, and its supposed to do it with twins instead of trips.
Here are some cool ariel photos of the boat.
