Default Johnson 150 problem

I burned out the fogger yesterday and let the motor run with the earmuffs for about 15 minutes without any problem. Today as I was running the boat the engine drops rpms and stalls. I attempt to start about 10 times with the same result...the motor will run for a few minutes very roughly, shudder, and stall out. When I pulled the cowling off gas poured out. There was probably 3 cups that came out. With the engine off I pumped the primer bulb and gas would pour out of one of the cylinders. I could not get the engine to run right and was loosing too much fuel so had to get towed in. Any ideas what the problem is here? The motor is a 2000 Johnson 150. It has previously run great since I bought it. Any help is appreciated.

If it's carbed you may have a clogged carburator. Similar thing happened to me a few years ago (94 150 rude), rebuilt all the carbs, not a problem since.

make sure you don't have a stuck float on one of the carbs, usally gas will overflow from the carb. If that is the problem you will need to pull the carb and clean/rebuild it. It's easier than you might think.

I really appreciate the help folks. I was definitely seeing dollar signs as I was bobbing around without power. I'm going to figure out how to unstick the float and clean the carburetor.

Will the Clymers type manual be OK or do you suggest something better?

Thank you again.

I reuilt all 6 carbs on my 1996 150 Johnson over a weekend. One of the needles was stuck in the jet and starving the cylinder for fuel. Turned out to be pretty straight forward and the rebuild kits were about $20 each. I used the Seloc manual which had plenty of pictures to walk you through it. (I recomend the manual either way, it's a good way to get to know your motor.) If you follow their instructions carefully you should have no problem. If you have plastic carbs don't overtighten and warp them. It's all in the manual. Hope this helps.

JUSTINTIME, I would greatly appreciate the clymers manual if you already have it in .pdf format. I do plan to get the shop manual at some point, but would like to have the other manual also. My email is matt.burris@cox.net. Thank you.
