Bass and Walleye and Trailer Boats magazines both did reviews on the 250xs last year in head to head comparisons with Ficht 250 and HPDI 250. The 250xs won top speed on a bass boat with a very expensive optional gearcase and prop. It also won top speed on the big center console because it was mounted one bolt hole higher (causing massive cavitation in even mild turns).

Also, does your marina sell premium fuel, because that is reqired for the 250xs !

I am running a new set of them on my 322 Intrepid. They are excellent engines. Fuel economy is unreal and they have more power than you can imagine. I was running a set of Yamaha 250's before and there is no comparsion between the two. Fuel economy improved by 45% and and oil consumption was cut in half. Also picked up 8 mph at wot and 5mph at cruise. You do have to run preimum fuel but throw on 100 gallons and fish for two days.

Probably one of the best engines Merc has built, and one of the few that has not had problems like earlier Optis and Yamaha's current HPDI and 4-stroke fiasco. Fuel economy is excellent and it will keep up with the 300 HPDI all day while burning 15% less fuel and oil. Running quality at idle is better as well since it fires on all 6 cylinders rather than 4 like the HPDI. For comparison, a 34 Fountain with triple 225 4-strokes (+/-215 at the prop) will run 61-62, with triple 225 Optis (which put out 240+ at the prop) will run 64-66, with the 250s (270+ at the prop) she runs 70-72 depending on conditions. Fuel burn at a 4000 RPM cruise is about 33 gph total with the 250s, very efficient as you can see considering their output.
