Default DO ANY BOAT COMPANYS OFFER SEPARATE GAS TANKS FOR TWIN OUTBOARDS.

JUST CURIOUS CAN YOU ORDER SEPARATE FUEL TANKS FOR YOUR TWIN SETUP. IF YOU CAN'T WHY DON'T THEY OFFER THEM? SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD RAISE THE SAFETY BAR A BIT IN THE EVENT A PROBLEM WITH ONE TANK WOULD NOT EFFECT THE OTHER TANK OR MOTOR.

THANKS

Sure, some mfg's do and some don't. It seems that mainly the larger hulls offer/mandate the twin tanks. Just curious...If you had twin tanks, would you fill each tank up at a different pump station each time? Ie: Fill your port tank, then move to a different pump station to fill your starboard tank?

I have 4 seperate tanks on my 28' CC. 2 75's and 2 50's.
Advantages are they're saddle mounted, not sitting in the bilge. Less likelihood of them sitting in a constant salt water bath.
We used to go the Bahamas a lot and I always burned off the 50's first then refilled them. That way if we did get a batch of bad gas (never actually happened) we could swap out the fuel water seperators, open the main tanks and still have a safe 250 mile range. Enough to get back to the States.
I don't know of any boatbuilder that builds both ways. That would be a bit too expensive.
As far as filling up problems, I pull right in the middle of two rows of pumps and fill both sides at the same time. The owner of the gas station I frequent has no problem with that. I buy a little more than the average car that pulls in.

My grady 265 Express has two tanks, you can either pull gas for both motors from one tank, or each motor with it iwns tank.
The pursuit 2870 is the same way I believe.
My thought on safty with fuel is this, I fill both tanks from the same place and run BOTH motors off of one tank. Since the fuel came from the same place, if I have trouble, it will be on the way out, not the way it.

You can remove your tank and put in 2 smaller ones if you wanted. But I don't know why you would do that.

One tank for twins is ok as long as you have TWO separate pickups. Never tee off a single pickup if you have twin outboards.

YES MOST COMPANIES DO IT IF YOU ASK THEM. DEALERS CAN RIP OUT THE SINGLE TANKS AND INSTALL THE DUAL TANKS FOR YOU NO PROBLEM.

Before you complicate your boating experience try to find out how much of a problem bad gas really is, with todays Racor filters its never been an issue for me, if you make sure your pick up tube does NOT have a strainer the Racors will do the work for you and these are easily monitored and changed from time to time.

Capehorn 31's come with two isolated tanks one for each motor. It does make sense to do this.1 water intrusion 2 pick up failure 3 line failure (If your in bad weather you maintain control). The other CH may be this way as well I just know the 31 does.

The CH 31 has two 145 gal tanks one for each engine. On mine I installed another fuel pick up in each tank and hoses along with a pair of three way fuel valves to allow either engine to run off of either tank or both engines off of one. Under normal operation I run off the forward tank and keep 50 gals in the stern tank as reserve.

LOCAL MOTION,
What's the problem w/2 motors teed off the same feed? I just bought a RACOR 320R-RAC-01 filtor/separator for my twin 115 Yamahas. The counter guy said the housing had 1 input & 2 outputs but when I went to install it it had 2 inputs and only one output??? I was leery of a tee with the 2 fuel pumps fighting each other so I went surfing for some knowledge. The unit is rated 60 gph but only has a single 1/4 inch NPT output. The RACOR website says zilch about twins. Any help would be appreciated.
