2005 24 hydrasport vector/gas tank

I just got the news that the gas tank has to be re-placed due to a leak. How will taking the top off hurt the integrity of the boat. They are sending it back to the factory. I mainly fish off shore out of NC and do run into rough water quite a bit. I bought the boat in Oct 2005 and have about 580 hours on the boat. It is a great boat, and it just makes me sick to send it back and have them take it apart.
