Looking at 2 motors both 150s one an evirude other yamaha.Evinrude 3yrs and yamaha 2yrs ,dealer says yamaha may have a deal for 2 more for free .So thats makes four but he says evinrude 3 covers everthing for three while yamaha elments things as it goes.Anyone have an other info?
I am happy with my Rudes but they are 2001's and I think I only have a two year warranty.
IMHO I would not consider warranty coverage to be a major factor in deciding what to buy. The length of the warranty and how easy it may be to collect are two different things.
Also, my experiences with automobiles is that when an additional warranty is offered at a cost you probably don't need it and its not worth it.
Those are both fine motors make your decision on other fcators (your friend's experiences, price, reputation, your impression of quality, etc)
I think those Daewoos had great warranties - but try to collect on them now....
Yamaha's warranty is also a non-declining warranty. I'm not sure where the other guy is coming from but when you read the Yamaha warranty, the cowling is covered for one year and everything else for the full 2 years. If you purchase or receive a Yamaha exteded service plan, the same coverage is extended however long the extension is good for. The cowling is still covered for 1 year. Doesn't get much easier than that and other than the cowling, I don't know what more the Bombardier warranty can cover than the Yamaha does.
Basically Bombardier had to lengthen their warranty to try to give the customer a reason to buy them over a Yamaha or Merc. Not that Bombardier is not a good motor but they have to try to reclaim market share from Yamaha. I don't think the extra warranty is enough though. Are you buying a warranty or a motor? If so, buy a Hyundai (10 year warr.) instead of a Mercedes (3 years).
Read the Yamaha warranty statement carefully, after the first year electrical parts are not covered, rubber parts are not covered, and paint and trim are not covered.
the new powerboat reports issue states that yamaha does'nt cover the gauges, electrical etc. but the factory rep. says that a claim within the 2 or 3 year warrantee period for these items has never been denied.
Evinrude doesn't cover everything. My ten hour maintance was not covered. I don't believe any other maintance is either. I really like the motor, but was disappointed to find this out.
No motor company covers the 10 hr. check or any other type of maintenance, that is the customer's responsibility, just like with your car, furnace, refridgerator, air conditioner, oven, etc.
