How do you prevent your anchor damaging your hull when raisng on an electric windlass
I have a Delta anchor on an electric windlass and when I raise it, especially if it is rough, as the shank is almost up to the bow roller, it can spin round and gouge my hull right at the top. I thought aout fitting some small rectangular rubber panels either side on the paintwork or maybe even like a stone protecter that some manufacturers fit on ther cars where they are liable to chip-a type of self coloured plastic. Any ideas?

the 6 inch crossways of the bow edge is covered wtih this stuff - you cannot see it from more than 2 foot away and it sticks no matter what, yet comes off if you want...It's been on every boat I've owned with a bow roller (3) and you can bang it all you want and never leaves any marks...

Glen, How strong is the material that you have listed? Instead of an ugly keelguard, would this work in its place for beaching on sand? If it can tank an anchor beating, it has to be tough!!! The stuff looks clear and looks like it will not be visible. Thanks

it's quite strong but I'm sure the adhesive is not conducive to water immersion....

Thanks Glen,
just ordered one.
if your using the headlight shield, pre bend it abound a baseball bat with a heat lamp before appyling. Let it sit in the sun so the bend becomes semi perm.... to give it a curve that won't fight you when you run it down the bow edge....

Huh? Just put the boat in 'reverse' when the anchor is 15' or so under water and get some ANGLE of pull onto the windlass and back the hull away a bit. Once the angle is on, stop reverse and bring her up, or else one 'can' have too much pull so you force a swing into the anchor. But why fool with other stuff when the maritime solution has worked for ages ... ?

oh please don't act so sailor-ish..there are many times when things don't go so perfect. Many times I want to wash mud off the anchor prior to pullling up the last 3 feet so it's swinging around while I'm washing it down, other times you are in the middle of several boats and things cannot be exactly as written in Chapman. A stroll down your local marina dock observing bow gelcoat will show you all is not perfect when using bowrollers, windlasses and big anchors...

On a similar note for those of us fighting Danforth anchors being pulled by hand over the railing....
I purchased soem rubber footies (like you would have on crutches) and used 5200 to glue them to the crossbar on my anchor. The end of that bar always wants to bang the side of the boat..especially when my wife is pulling anchor It has saved my gel mor ethan once and they have lasted over a year. Cheap too at the home store.
