Default Need help Looking for diesel fishing boat 25-30ft.

I'm in the market for a fishing boat in the 25-30 ft. range. I'm fairly new to boating, but my father used to have an old Mackenzie bassboat which I loved. I would like to find something similar in style, but made of fiberglass and with a single diesel. If anyone knows of any boats that fit this description please let me know.

Thanks a lot, Eric

The Mackenzie Cuttyhunk was a great boat. You will love this 29 from Atlantic Boat Works (Duffy and BHM)

There was a Mackenzie Cuttyhunk for sale in soundings not long ago-what a beautiful boat!
My neighbor is selling his Fortier 26 w/single diesel that fits your description. Second the Shamrock and Albin. I had a Shamrock 260 Express w/single Yanmar that I liked a lot cruised at 24 knots and was very thrifty with fuel-may be worth looking into.

I agree.

Good suggestions with the A.B.W. & Fortier 26

I will also toss in the 26' JC, Wasque 22 or 26, Dyer 29, or if you like the classic lapstrake look (just like the Mckenzie but all glass) Captiva 24'

I own a shamrock and love it. But the Carolina Classic 25 with a single inboard diesel is a sweet boat. 24 deg deadrise with lots of bow flair.

On a recent trip to Costa Rica, my wife and I chartered a Shamrock 26 and it was a good fishing platform for the two of us. I asked the Capt what his fuel burn was and it made me a little jealous. He goes out about 25 miles and trolls 7 hours each day. He "says" he buys fuel every 2 trips and it usually takes 50 gallons to top it off. I think he said it had a 270hp Cummins. He cruises at about 20knts. Sitting down by the engine, it was a little noisy. This was an older boat (mid 80's, I think) so I don't know how it would compare to a newer one.

And, we caught fish!

Regards,

I currently have a 2002 27 tides custom express for sale. It has a 370 yanmar and cruises 26 to 27 knots. I am asking $125,000. The boat is located in Fort Walton Beach, FL. You can reach me by calling 850-218-4305. Email me at jreiker@reiker.gccoxmail.com and I will send you some pictures of the boat.

Henriques makes a 28 single diesel pilot house type boat that is sweet. They are usually only build to order but they have a yellow one just about ready with a 315 Yanmar in the factory right now.......Bet you can get a sweet deal on it and that thing is built like a "brick sh*t house".......................

Where can one find pictures of this boat? I had seen a 38' for sale a few years ago that looked like a pilothouse configuration. A friend has a 38' El Bravo and that thing is a beast.

As for Parkers, I'm sure they exist but you would be extremely lucky to come across a diesel I/O let alone someone who was willing to sell it, very rare boats in that setup.

Whatever you do, save yourself a ton of money and do not buy new. I recommend instead buying an older hull in good shape, such as the 26 or 28 Bertram, Chapparral 244, Formula 24 or comparable. Refinish it and throw a new diesel in it. We have a Chapparral 244 with a Steyr 4cyl turbo diesel. Top end is 30 kts. The last long run we made was 120 miles round-trip, fully loaded, and burnt 36 gallons of diesel (off-road diesel). You can get in to a refurbished diesel powered boat for 40-50 k less than a new base model.

check your local marina prices before you buy anything that needs to float full time
