Do they still stink like the old ones? How much better have they gotten-if any?
I have a problem with the stench of the older outboards and diesel engines. Both make me a little nauseous from the fumes, which is one reason I have a gas I/O. I like the outboard idea but don’t want to be sick all the time on the water.
I'd appreciate any experiences you have.
The enemy of hp is weight, hence the importance of the "power to weight ratio" I like 2 strokes because of this, but I used to be a hot rod guy, we're used to sacrificing anything for performance.

2 Srokes burn less fuel, I'm a merc guy, but E-TEC has lower emisions. So at this point the advantage of a 4-stroke you can here your stereo at 5,500 rpm's.
Call me crazy but I have always associated the smell of an old carbed 2 stroke with fishing and being out on the water. Yes, I would love to have a newer motor that doesn't smoke like a brush fire when first started for the Old Girl but, while it is still running I love the smell of a two stroke motor early in the morning on my way out for a day of crusing or fishing!
