The 24 ft edgewater I am looking at has some small blisters under the bottom paint. The survey says it is not a structural flaw. Should I be worried? Otherwise boat and motor check out ok.

That sucks, Edgwaters are expensive boats and are supposed to have excellent handling and ride characterstics, which I'm sure they do. I would be extremely pissed at the blistering, even though it is not a structural problem. Most manufacturers don't cover blistering. Personally, if I put up the premium price for a boat and I would demand perfection. Just a comment. I hope Edgwater treats you right. Good luck.

Are the blisters in the paint, or in the gelcoat underneath the paint? If the latter, be concerned: generally more to follow, and much work to fix. If it's just the paint, no big deal -- new paint job.

I would pass on the boat. It will only get worse. I have done blister repair in a 21' Cruisers Inc. and can tell you it's no joke. It's a lengthy process to grind out each blister, dry them out both air and chemically, and then rebuild and barrier coat the entire bottom. If you have it done, it won't be cheap. A neighbor of mine had it done to a 31' Bertram and paid $15,000. After it's done there are no guarantees that it wont spread later.

Too many nice boats without blistering.

Unless they are giving you the deal of the century..

Jiggy, did you see that he was just looking at the boat.

That said, I would concur with the posters above. It would have to be one incredible deal to buy a boat with some gelcoat blistering.

As said before, really depends if it is gelcoat blistering or if it is only a bad paint job blistering.

What has Edgewater said on this? That would be my first contact if it were me looking. They have a limited lifetime warranty, but I don't know if blisters on a boat stored in the water is a covered problem. I would hope it is. I think you should have their response in writing before any other advise or action (or inaction). The boat is a terrific boat in the way it performs and the basic construction. Blisters are known to every polyester or even vinyl resin based manufacturer at some time or other.
