Default Tying Canvas to T top. How hard is it to do?

I have got some areas on my t top where the cord had deteriorated to the point of breaking. How hard is it and is there any tricks to connecting the canvas to the t top. I want to have it as tight as it is now but I am afraid that it might be more trouble than it is worth. Does this take skill or could it be a DIY project? Are there any websites that atlk about how to install the canvas to the t top?

Any thoughts and has anyone ever done this before?

I just laced a new canvas on my boat it was easier than I thought my 9 year old did one side while I did the other only took about an hour we just kept taking our time and stretching it as much as possible if you need a close up of the lace pattern I will take a digital pic and email it to you

Thanks Sea Monster

I guess I will use the same lace pattern as i have on there now. Is there a certain type of cord that you have to use (ie non stretch)? Is just a matter of starting in one spot and working your way around?

VERY EASY
take a pic of what you have now just in case
it is indeed a matter of starting in one spot...it will be a little tedious until you get about halfway, because you'll be pulling thru such a long lace cord

it is easy, no sweat

I learned a trick with this. Before you remove the old top by a bunch of zip ties to pull the canvas tight and to make sure it stays center. Run you new line, pull it tight, and tie it off. Then go and cut out all the zip ties. I found this little trick works best.

Wet the canvas before you start to lace it up. It will strech a bit, then when it drys it will shrink just a little and pull your laces tight..........

I've used this method several times. Easy as pie.

I laced mine myself. I found 100' of black parachute cord for something like $7 using froogle.com. I actually just used a zip tie in every hole and ran around like that for a month or more.

I recommend checking your cord on a regular basis to prevent your canvas from becoming too loose while trailering...Loose canvas will eventually lead to torn eyelets from the flapping which will result in a trip to the canvas shop...just cinch up the cord now and then if needed

I used the zip tie method two years ago on a t-top.
Alone it took me 20 minutes to relash the entire 5'x7' top.
Put the ties on prior to removing the old lashing.
Not hard at all.

I just used the Zip Ties-screw the lacing, I was sick of it getting moldy and dirty.Just make sure your Zip Ties are UV Resistant

Try to find Dacron cord and not nylon, since nylon stretches when it is wet. I generally do each side as a separte run, although it looks better to go all around the top in one run. Wetting the canvas and using tie wraps work very well - been there and done that.
