I have a 2003 Mercury 225 Fourstroke Motor. This is the motor that Yami built for them.
Currently it's connected to my old analog Johnson gauges from the last motor.
I'd like to replace these with a set of SC1000 Smartcraft gauges to save space and have fuel burn info.
Has anyone done this changeover?
I'm wondering:
1. Will they be compatible? (I've been told they are)
2. What do I need? (I'm guessing gauges and cable?)
3. Is it all plug and pray? (Or do I need a dealer to program them)
4. Is there anything to watch out for?
I'd like to buy the components on Ebay to save some $. I just want to know what I'm going to need.
You can't. Thats why they left it alone. Who told you that is was compatible?
The dealer, right?
You have to go with an aftermarket unit. Put a sensor in the line for fuel burn.
I have a buddy with the same motor that is running the Big SC5000 monitor without a problem.
My understanding was some motors worked, some didn't.
Does anyone know anything else?
call merc cust realtions with your ser # and ask - I doubt your buddy has one that works - as the yam internal compyuter never supported CAN /smartcraft info - but post here after you call...
I've seen them in opperation so I know they work. My understanding was that on the later model 4 strokes they added a smartcraft computer to make them work.
I'll get the serial # over the weekend and put a call in.

Thanks for the advice.
if you have seen it work that's good enuf for me to amend my knowledge base - please PM or post here as to what year the Yam/merc started working with smartcraft.....
It would make sense that you could since the 2006 models used 14-pin Merc harnesses, so maybe it is possible...I know we repowered a Scarab with them and it used the 14-pin connectors, but we used the old guages as that's what the customer wanted, no idea if they would've worked. I know that the Yamaha guages will work as I've seen that setup with fuel management and all.
