Default Yamaha Fuel Management Question

I took the boat out for the first time and am trying to understand this system.Im sure I covered 75 miles and the thing says I used11 gallons, that cant be right.During the trip it said I was getting about 3mpg. The only thing I can figur is when I stopped it reset itself.Im thinking about 22gallons sounds right what do you Yammy experts think?I was having power problems i had to wiggle some wires behind the gauge to get it to come on on the way back.By the way its a 1997 200 carbed.

If you at any time lost power at the gauge, it would have reset itself to zero.

To clarify that a bit, the unit has to remain connected to battery power at all times to retain its memory and has an ignition feed to turn it on and off. Turning it of and on should not reset it. Loosing the battery power will.

gman25 & kerno, I've got to disagree. My fuel management system doesn't reset unless you push the reset button. I have a 1995 Yamaha with twin 130s. I turn off battery power if stopping for more than a day (bilge pump is wired directly through a float switch), and my totalizer doesn't reset.

Batteries being turned off would not reset gauge as it is not wired through the battery switch. Removing the batteries would rest the guage to zero.
If there is a loose connection and power to the gauge is lost it will reset to zero.

The batteries had been out of my boat all winter long, still show my total fuel usage nothing has been reset. However, the MPG indication is real-time so you will not have a record of that if you lose power. I would make sure I had all the power connections corrected, then fill the tank and try it again. After that you should be able to dial in the fuel sender\guage to the correct usage.
