Default The most stable boat ?

I am looking to get a used 24-26 off shore boat to use in California. What is a good boat, that is able handle rough seas and not rock/roll on drift ? Thanks.

Whats more important to you, a nice ride, or stability at rest? You cant get the best of both in one boat. Ive no experience with Contenders and the like, but I imagine that is one extreme, nice ride but might roll more than you want. Unless I was typically running long distances in poor seas, and/or needed to get there fast, I'd prefer the stability at rest and look for that type of boat if I did a lot of drifting.

seriously, Dr. J is right. And it sounds like you want a compromise boat decent running... solid at drift... Parker and Steigercraft come to mind. Read this thread

It depends how rough but any boat that size will no be great in the rough stuff. The 25 Avenger is the most stable boat I have ever been on, it is unbeliveable, it will also handle a chop nice, for running offshore. The Avenger was designed as a hybird boat for Florida flats & offshore it does both at a level that has to be experienced to be believed. I have owned 4 Scouts from 17-23ft they were all stable nice running boats, but compared to the Avenger they ran poor, rocked & rolled. A local guide had a 24 Avenger sold it purchased a 27 Contender sold it & went back to the 24 again. This boat will compare to a much larger offshore boat & run circles around boats in its class.

Shamrock keel drive inboard center console. Keel and inboard reduce rock and roll dramatically and the boat handles rough stuff well enough at reasonable mph. One model has a small forward cuddy on a center console to store suff and house a pottie. Check out www.fishtheclasic.com .Good luck.

Slick design lots of room the cuddy is huge for a boat that size.

I must ask have you been on that boat, or are you just playing with us?
I have the 246 Shamrock is not stable far from it in my book anyway.
To top things off it drafts like 3ft, well maybe not that much but way more than I am used to.

trstevenj is talking about a keeled shamrock. The 24 is a pocket drive with more deadrise; completely different design, therefore ride and drift characteristics.
