Default Performance Specs between Yamaha SS 250 EFI and 250 HPDI

I have a Grady Islander 268 with a Yamaha SS 250 EFI. The performance specs are as follows:

Weight as tested: between 6700 and 7000lbs
Running Length of hull: 26' 11"
Beam: 8'6"

RPM MPH GPH MPG
4000 25 11.6 2.2
I was just looking at the performance specs for a Parker 25'4' SC with a 250 HPDI.(They don't have any for the Islander yet).

Weight as tested: 7559
Running length of hull: 25'4"
Beam: 9'6"

RPM MPH GPH MPG
4000 28.8 11.0 2.62
That seems to be almost a 20% bump in performance in speed and economy on a heavier and wider beamed boat. Plus the rpm midrange(2000 - 3500) seems a heck of a lot better....are you guys with the 250 HPDI's seeing that kind of performance boost ?

Apples to Oranges don't you think? Different hull designs could attribute to the Differences.

Actually, everything I have read indicates that the OX66 250 will outperform the HPDI 250. Unfortunately, Yamaha quit making the OX66 motor in anything over 200hp.

I have a 23'5" boat with an 8'6" beam and 24 degree deadrise. Probably about 4000lbs with a normal load. In calm water I get 33.5mph and 3mpg at 4000rpms.

Spooled

The problem with performance specs is you never get to compare anything identically...in this case Grady doesn't have the data nor does Yamaha...so somehow you have to try to extrapolate from what you have...
that's why I posted the question...

Even reel manufacturers do with their capacity spool ratings from model to model...it's frustrating.

I recently switched from OX66's to HPDI's and NO
the differences aren't much, with the exception of
above 5000 rpm traveling, THEN theres is a pretty good difference. most definitely wish I had the old ones back.

I have noticed a big difference between the OX66s and 250 HPDI's. Fuel economy is much better than before no smoke and they don't burn as much oil. I am getting better gas mileage with my 31 Contender than I did with my 27 Contender. I have 112 hours on as of last Sunday. Speed is virtually the same.

Nothing will matter until the 300HPDI comes out.

I'm gonna put two of em on the back of my 25, run some 25" props, top out at 70mph and get 3mpg cruising in the low 50's.

That will rock.

Can't speak for BigBone, but for lil ole me: 70+ mph on water -- whether in a bass boat, bay boat, or bluewater -- is probably the closest I'll ever get to truly flying.

Can't beat it, and can't catch it any other way.

My favorite mechanic told me yesterday to go with the 4 strokes if I really wanted to spend a boatload of cash to replace my OX-66 2000 EFI's...

Sales guys said the 2000's were worth maybe $12,000 for the pair...

Think I'll stick with my current engines and keep my money under the mattress!

Performance is very simular for the Hpdi and ox66. The hpdi gets much better fuel economy especially at the higher rpm's. 33% better at WOT. They also seem a little quieter.

Re: Insuring 600HP
I'm the insurance agent, so I just approve the policy and spread the risk across the market.

Re: What you can catch at 70MPH
We troll big grappling hooks at about 50mph through tuna schools, then go back and collect whatever floats up. I figure at 70, whatever floats up will already be fileted and we can just have the wasabi ready.
