Default SAILFISH 2660

Just ordered a new Sailfish 2660 at the Miami Boat show. Comes with twin yamaha 150's. I am considering upgrading to twin 250's. Dealer says it is not necessary it will only get 8 to 10 mph more and burn to much fuel. Would like to get some opinions. Keep thinking that it is underpowered with the 150's.

Do a search on THT. This topic has been beat to death over the last 6 months. IMHO, the only bad choice for the SF26 would be the F200s. All the other choices would be fine. The big difference between F150s and F250s is 10MPH on the top end (and cruise speed of low to mid 40s vs low to mid 30s when conditions permit). And another $10K.

one wolf has it . the f200s weifg to much so go with the f150s or f250s. I am presently repowering an 02 266 with the f150s and believe it should be finewith the reliance19m-13 3/4 stainless wheels. up in the north east its rare when I can let er eat anyhow so a 30 or so knt cruise is fine.should be rigged up in 2-3 weeks for a test run

there isn't much difference in fuel economy at all actually. You can look them up on the yamaha site and see the performance numbers for yourself. Most 2660 sold near me have 150s just because they are so much cheaper.

The 250's will be closer to 15 mph faster when loaded and the difference in cruise gph won't show up till you get north of 40mph at 27-33 mph the 250's will be very close to the 150's in flatwater and better in rough water If you can purchase the larger engines do it they will never work as hard as the smaller ones and your resale will be better

Lifes to short for little engines - go big. The difference between cruising in the thirties versus the forties is huge.

I would never put 150s on a 26 foot cc. 200 gallaons of fuel 1400 lbs. 200 lbs of ice, 1000 plus pounds of gear, 3 fat guys and you are carrying a big load. Resale will be better and 10 miles an hour is a big deal! Another nice price and performance option would be 200 hpdi motors. Great motors but I don't know if they are still available. Great boat but think hard about them 150s. You are spending alot of money and will put another 10K plus in electronics so don't chince out with the power.

Loaded with fuel, ice, gear and 4 fat guys I get 57-58 WAO in the ICW. Light with 1 fat guy (me) saw 64 once (100+/- gals of fuel) I would not do 150s but that is me. I know a lot of folks did and love them.

I have the 2660 with the 150's With 4 men on the boat we top out at 49 mph. How much faster do you want to go? The 150's IMO are the best of the Yamaha 4 strokes.

I have a 2660 with f150s.It does 46 loaded which is fine.Boat came with 2 batteries in console when 2 more were added the ride got better,I am thinking that the f250s may have an effect on ride quality due to more weight on transom.I have not ridden the 250 s but the 150s just feel right.

F150's or 200 HPDI's. F250's are too heavy for that boat, IMHO.

As I said in my above post, a lot of folks have the 150s and love them. Me, I tested 3 versions of the 2660 before I ordered mine, the 150, 200, and the 250. The 250 is IMHO the ulitimate ride, the 200 hpdis were nice, but I plan on trading at the end of the year and did not want to sell the 2strokes, the 150s just did not have the punch I wanted. I wonder how many with 150s have ridden on a 250 boat?

Me, about 20 mph faster And this time next year I will. For me it was not just wot, but the cruise speed. We have a 75 mile run to the gulfstream here, and a 10-15 mph bump in cruise really helps. Plus look at the fuel consumptions. I am right there with the 150s at comparable rpms and speeds.

back in 02 when I bought my 236, there was a 266 sitting in the water w/50 gal of fuel and nothing else not even elcts yet. she had a pair of f225 s on her and both scuppers were under, there was a foul scum line 1/3 way up the the side of the boat. it just didnt sit right in the water. I now have the 02-266 and went with the 150s for that reason as well . these boats tend to drift stern /quarter to the sea w/o a wind sock as it is. I wonder how the frift would be with the extra weight if any. by the way what is the weight dif from f150s to f250s. mid 30s cruise is fine by me with 4 fat asses on board anyhow

The 250s weigh +/- 230 lbs more. I recently docked next to a new 2660 with 150s and he commented that he would have sworn my boat had 150s due to the way it sat. He had heard the same thing you said about sitting stern low. I had my 60 gal livewell full and +/- 180 gals of fuel on board also. I never noriced either boats sitting differently. But it is YOUR decision. It is more coin to go with the 250s, and both setups are great. Hell, this boat is great. Do whatever and you will love it.

i just bought a 2007 2660 with f 250s i should be recieving the boat in the next few days. my my main reason is that on previous boats i owned it seemed like after time i always would say i wish i would have went with a little bigger engine. so this time i have done that . i know of a few people that have the 250s and low 60s are very attainable and can crusie in the high 30s to low 40s at 2 mpg not to bad. mine was about a 10 grand upgrade.

Thank you for your opinions. They have been very helpful. Even though I'm sure the boat would run fine with the 150's I decided to go ahead and get the 250's. Did not want to look back and think I should have and I didn't.

Now on to electronics.....
