Default Does anyone have the 2008 ford with the new 6.4 L diesel or Dodge with new 6.7 L diesel?

I'm thinking about going back to a diesel and was wondering if anyone had any experience with either of these two motors. Last year I was looking at the ford with 6.0 but actually got talked out of it by a friend who's had chronic problems related to the fuel system. With the dodge I was waiting for the new 6 speed auto to come out.

Thanks in advance.

I currently have 2006 6.0 and I love the truck along with about 4 other people I know with same truck. one truck had a bad sensor thats about the only problem we have had.The older trucks seem to be the ones with all the problems.Would probably wait on the new 6.4 since its a brand new settup and im sure their going to be issues with that motor.I've also heard dealers are making you pay sticker prices on the trucks meaning there are no deals on theses trucks.I'll going to wait 2 or 3 years to get my 6.4.

I took delivery on my new 2008 F450 Super Duty Crew Cab with the new 6.4 Power Stroke yesterday.

I got it at 1K over invoice.

So far I love the engine much better than my 6.0 Power Stroke. Much more acceleration from a stop than the 6.0. Very quite and seems to get the same milege as my old Excurision. As far as problems I never had any real problems with the 6.0 motor except I had the turbo replaced at 18K miles under warranty. As far as the 6.4 in the new Superduty it's to early to tell. I'll keep everyone updated.

I'm almost willing to bet that the 6.4 in the SUPERDUTY is going to be a DYNA<ITE combination. FORD has been testing this engine for almost 2 years on engine dynos running them at 100% loads to make certain they didn't have another 6.0L unveiling. The 6.0L received many improvements in the engines built from 01/05 on, but they have a pretty bad stigma to break from all of the 03's that had a the whole gammet of problems. I would be more worried about the torqueshift tranny being able to hold up to the new engine if it was me. And I'm still in limbo over the new DODGE. The CUMMINS 6.7 has been proven for many years in agricultral use, and the new TOYOTA tranny I believe is only coming out behind there cab and chassis's and the new 4500/5500 series trucks. I believe they said there using an in house 6 speed for the 2500/3500's. But we'll see. I'm still a DURAMAX/ALLISON fan myself, but I'm not the biggest fan of there current interior, we'll see what the 07.5+ brings to the table.

Engines aside, I just went from a 99 Ford Superduty to a 2004 Dodge 2500. Overall, the Ford is a nicer truck. The Dodge is just a little cheaper in build quality. Lots of squeaks. Parts dont fit nice. Ride is more harsh. etc. I have no brand loyalty to either and hopefully wont have any problems with the Dodge as I didnt with the Ford.

I heard the engine wil be a great engine, spoke to a Ford test engineer and he stated it woukld take 10 days or so to blow a 6.4 and this is a good thing since he could blow up a 6.0 in less then a day. problem is not the engine but the emission systems are going to be very expensive. I have heard form several fleet operators about the after burners on the exhaust. I have seen estimats on the replacement and cleaning estimates on the new emission standards. these cost may make it so expensive after 150,000 miles we may wish we never saw a diesel.

That's right. Contrary to what many DODGE owners will tell you, the new heavy duty 6 speed that DODGE is employing is built by AISIAN WARNER which is a TOYOTA manufacturing company(similar to TURBO_HYDROMATIC and GM).

Dodge has truely been tested in the harshes conditions. They can pull anything you can hook them too. I never have to worry if I will make it home. If Dodge feels that this is a better match for them I will follow, I have never been let down by there product. As for my money it will go to Dodge. If I had to buy a foreign product it would be a Toyota they are absolutly bullet proof. Just my .02

As a Ford truck owner since high school (1973) and two Powerstroke F 350's I disagree with the Dodge being a cheaper build. In the past, yes. But,I think this latest generation of Dodge trucks is equal. I chose a Dodge/Cummins 3500 over the Ford because it beat the Ford in all mechanical specs. I may go back to the Ford for my next truck, but in '05 i chose the Dodge and have zero complaints.

with my company I own 3 6.0l ford trucks...have had a lot of problems with fuel injectors...absolutely the no 1 problem...all so far have been fixed under the 100k warranty. two of the trucks are well above 100k now (125k & 135k) we'll see how they do over the next couple of years. We had a bunch of the 7.3 l and in the mid 100's all suffered electrical fires to the injection system (90VDC) That being said, they are very drivable, powerfull & above all extremely efficient

I have a 1999 F-250 / Powerstroke. The truck has 156,000 miles on the originl tranny. I tow extremely heavy loads on a daily basis. I have a heavy equipment company and a debris removal service. I was weighed in at 34,000 + lbs (truck, trailer, load) once at the dump. I have never had any trouble with tranny or motor. They never should have stopped making the old 7.3. As for the 6.0, I think they worked the bugs out of them towards the end. A big problem they had that damaged their reputation was people putting the high performance chips in them and them blowing up as a result. The motor was built to its performance threshold out of the factory and didn't have the room to add another 150 hp from a chip upgrade. The new motor looks like a beast. Way to early too know whats going to happen with it.

Its all in how you treat your equipment , I tow 10,000 plus pounds everyday,I could problably break any of these trucks if I tried hard enough. My farther used to have a trucking company , He would take 50 tons of coal all through West Virginia, Every single day . With the big 450 cummins he had over a million miles on one truck with just one over haul. Cannot go wrong with the cummins . The truck might fall apart but the engine will still be there. My 2 cents worth

The 6 speed with the Cummins will be sweet. With that said, I am very happy with my '05 Crew cab, 2500, auto, 4wd.

Last June, I loaded the family and hitched my boat for a trip down Baja. My 3 little ones in carseats in the back seat, our dog in the shell with vented A/C, a heavy steel Pacific Trailer and my Proline 251 packed with gear. We drove just over 3800 miles with most of it in over 100F heat.

Not a single problem except for the trailer. We had a binding actuator and dragging brakes but the truck never faltered. The Baja driving is the harshest I have ever done....2 lane highway, stop & go thru towns and over speedbumps, did I mention HEAT, mountainous, switchbacks, roadside animals, passing slow junky cars.

I am telling you, you can't go wrong with the Dodge.

Warren

I won't go into a battle with whose truck is the best , but I can tell you that if any of these trucks are mated with a 6spd Toyota auto trans, and if it has the select- o - shift like my new 5.7 Tundra , you're gonna LOVE IT !!.... There's a gear for everything, and the select shifting allows for up or downshifting at the touch of a button !!....SHWEEEEET !!....Jim

The two things you can't kill are Cummins Diesel motors and AISIAN WARNER auto trannies.

BTW, the old Ford 302's were a hard to kill V8 gas motor.
