I was at the Miami show thursday and friday looking for the next boat. The 36' jersey is an awesome boat, one that is at the top of my list right know. I didn't get a chance to sea trial this boat due to it's location on collins ave. The boat has a beam of 14'7'' and is pretty flat at the stern. I run out of texas and we don't get those nice rollers like the east coast guys. We have a typical 3-4 steep chop.
The boat is 24,000 dry but I'm wondering if it will handle these conditions without pounding. I run 100-150 miles each way and would like to cruise 28-30 knots.
I'm thinking of flying back in a few weeks to sea trial the boat after the show. I would like some opinions before making arangements to head that way, thanks in advance.
I want to know when we get those slow rollers I'm getting screwed. That thing will shine in short chop let that fine carolina entry split those waves the way it was designed to do and you will be good to go.If you launch it it's gonna hurt.
Having fished NC for 30 years, I'm thrilled to learn you have arranged those nice east coast rollers. When do they start?
I didn't start this thread to talk about different sea conditions around the globe. I'm looking for firsthand knowledge from anyone who has experienced the ride of the mentioned boat in sloppy conditions.
A friend at my marina has the 36 and is very happy with the purchase. I have not fished on his boat but have worked offshore next to him and it is a sweet ride. I think he can run slightly over 40 mph. The cockpit is huge, the seating is excellent, the center line helm has great visibility, the cabin appears to be first rate ...... it's a very nice boat.
I've fished on one several times. Takes the seas great, and seems much larger than a 36. This boat is commercially fished in the Atlantic year round and has pretty well seen all conditions. You won't be disappointed.

The owner of the company I work for owns one. Loves it, even after having some major structural issues with the stringers. Apparently, a previous owner had repowered and had the engine mounts "modified" to accept the new motors. The modifications were done incorrectly and as a result the structural integrity was compromised. The hull separated from the stringers during a rough day offshore.....the boat made it back to the docks but spent the entire next season in the yard being repaired. The owner believes that if the overall build quality of the boat wasn't as good as it was, the hull could've come apart that day and sank.
I have always loved the lines of this boat and the center-helm design. The deep entry at the V makes it a good head sea boat, but the relatively flat hull at the stern makes it very stable at anchor or while drifting.
It is on my list of favorite boats.
If you post on www.thebassbarn.com in the offshore section there are several 36 Jersey Cape owners there who will post of their experience. Think it's safe to say the all LOVE the boat and the performance.

You couldnt have a better guy building the boat! and it makes me very happy to see people appreciate the cockpit and helm design.designed about 15 years ago.the boat is designed to fish. it will turn and backdown after a marlin or bigeye better than most. it is very stable at rest. I dont think there is a bigger 36 built even today. and yes a 38 jupiter will go faster. but somtimes its better good to compromise a little, for a lot of good fishing.fished some very rough days when boats twice the size stayed tied up.and It catches and is fishable when some others would try to throw you out of the cockpit. good luck with your choice.
I've fished one this past summer, quite a nice boat for sure! Boat I was on belongs to "seh34" on the bassbarn. They have had theirs for 3 or 4 seasons, and have a lot of miles on it. I'm sure he can answer any specific questions you have.
