Hmmmm ... I know we've got a Yamaha "tech" or two out there, but this may be more of a "Sales Dept." question???
"Owners' responses" are ALSO welcome!
Anyone know what the deal is on whether or not you can purchase an "extended warranty" on the "Y.E.S." warranty IF you do it BEFORE the "Y.E.S." warranty expires?????
I asked my dealer and there seems to be some question on this???
At one time, Yamaha would ONLY let you buy a "Y.E.S." DURING the original FACTORY warranty period of the motor - EX. If you had a Yamaha with a 2-year FACTORY warranty, you could purchase a "Y.E.S." for "x" period of time IF you did it BEFORE the original FACTORY warranty expired.
If you got an "extra" "Y.E.S." warranty (say 1 year) when you purchased the motor ORIGINALLY - say through a "promo" at a boat show - you can NOT "extended" the "Y.E.S." warranty once you are into it.
Say you got a 2-year FACTORY + a 1-year "Y.E.S.", then you can NOT extend the "Y.E.S." warranty AFTER the beginning of the 3rd year.
Now, to throw a wrench into this, Yamaha DOES offer a "used motor" warranty - for those who are BEYOND their warranty period - i.e. NO warranty left! It's good on motors as far back as 1998! Runs about $1,100 for 1 year on a 115/2-stroke!
I guess my question is WHY don't they (or DO they?) offer an extension of the "Y.E.S." warranty, as long as you do it BEFORE the "Y.E.S." warranty expires?????
If they are willing to warranty an "out of warranty" motor, WHY wouldn't they be willing to extend the warranty on an "IN warranty" motor?????
Just curious - my dealer has left a message with Yamaha sales but dealer will not be back from vacation until early January.
Anyone else run into this before???
Thanks for your response and I hope I haven't confused the post!
