Default Sinking feeling about sinking.

Hey Guys

Do Sea Hunt Boats sink? or other late model cc fishing boats sink.

In the Sea Hunt info catalog there is listed Basic flotation and Level flotation but it's not available on my boat the 260.

Does hits mean it will sink?

How reliable is manufactories guaranties of floatation qualities of there boats?

After looking at those pics here of that boat on fire and those guys in the life raft it's starting to worrrrrry me.

What do you think

Chris

These boats are the only ones tested and rated virtually unsinkable by the USCG without the use of foam which can absorb water. Lots of other great qualities also. Worth a look. Its a good feeling knowing there are 9 tough aluminum air chambers surrounding your boat when you are offshore.

No such thing as an unsinkable hull, remember the Titanic? Even hulls that float level when full of water will only do it in calm conditions. You won't likely need that feature in those conditions anyway. If you want piece of mind then get a liferaft first, then add a handheld radio and next an EPIRB.

Basic flotation means it will float awash, not necessarily upright. Law requires boats under 20 ft. to float upright. It does not require any kind of floatation on boats over 20 ft.

Boats usually sink after hitting hard objects offshore or due to swamping by large waves. If ocean is rough no boat made will float upright. Not even the whalers or everglades. although their owner;'s like to think they do.

Most grid type boats will float due to amount of foam inside grid.

Sea Hunt will not sink due to grid. But it will not float upright.

If you fear sinking do not buy a boat.

If the fire is big enough you won't be able to enjoy the floatation.....If the water is cold enough you need plan B to stay alive in the water no matter what boat you have.

About 5 years ago there was a mother and daughter who died in a disaster..... they were on top of their overturned sailboat that floated just fine. They died of exposure/hypothermia.... the only difference in them and the two who lived was their body weight... the two who survived were much bigger.....

Plan B.... always have plan B.
