Default Trailer tire wear/bent axle?

One of my tires is wearing bad on the inside edge. If you stand back and look at the tire, it's not perfectly verticle, it's tilted. I guess the axle is bent. I don't remember hitting anything. Anyway can this be fixed? Where can I get it fixed? It's a 2000 LoadRite single axle trailer. It doesn't have the "straight pipe" axle. How much should I expect to pay?
Thanks.

pacfan,
There used to be a place in Raleigh called Stone Heavy Equipment. At one point they were doing a lot of spring and axle repair. I don't know if they are still in business or not. Worth a look versus replacing a spindle or an axle.

Default Trailer tire wear/bent axle?

I have a '93 Load Rite single axle trailer with the same symptom - extreme tire wear on the inner part of the tread. The guy I bought it from had been running it with about 30 lb. of air pressure, and I was told by someone who claimed to know that this was the reason for the uneven wear. Trailer tires are designed for higher inflation pressures (in this case, 45 - 50 lbs.) Anyone know if this theory is correct?

Contact www.championtrailers.com Axles are bent (positive camber) to allow for the load anticipated by the boat. Are you trailering with a trailer designed for your boat?

I had the same problem on both trailer tires. I pulled the axle to straighten it and I discovered that the spindles, not the axle was (were?) bent.

The guy at the trailer shop told me that it as a very common problem (esp here in Louisiana). Hit a few potholes and they'll bend so slowly you won't notice it until it is too late.

I had them replace the axle (upgraded a ton) and put oil-bath hubs on it. after about 2000 miles, no problems.

Try pulling the wheel and hub off and see if the bearings are eating into the spibdle, it's a dead give-away.

It's my understanding that this is a problem with a boat that is too heavy for the trailer. There is a boat dealership in NC that used to sell a lot of boats on trailers that couldn't hold the weight of the boat. I think this has been remedied by this dealer (new trailer mfg used and more tandems now) but I know a few guys that have fought this problem from this dealer.

I think MarshManiakG is correct. My buddies ended up getting heavier axles under their boats.

Good Luck,
