Can Anyone offer some insight on BRP's outboard offerings, cost of ownership, maintenance, and dealership support? Any information is helpful, please identify yourself as a dealer or consumer as I would like feed back from both parties.

Thanks for your support!
Do a search. Just like the cat versus mono the etec versus 4 stoke has been beat to death. Consumer with a 4 stroke.
consumer, 54 hours on a 2007 Etec 150, great gas and oil mileage, power out the wazoo, initial problem when test driving giving a false no oill reading, EMM changed and that was it. My only complaint is very minor, at about 3,000 rpm, the injectors change the gas feed from a misting (my words) to a jet of fuel and there is a slight hesitation at that point, almost unnoticeable except to me (my passengers never feel it). BRP is aware of this and is trying different software fixes to fine tune. I previously was a Merc man, but was sold on this motor as soon as I ran one. Quiet, smooth, starts at the touch of the ingnition even after sitting up for weeks. (I suspect the Opti is just as good based on what I have heard from a friend who has one.)
If your wondering about dealer support, you need to post your location. Every dealer isn't the same, regardless what motors they sell/service. Some are just better then others.
Repowered an older 25 Center Console last June. Its been back to two dealers 8 times and they still cant make it right. Mechanically, the E-TEC is the best out there. The I-Command System is AFU and BRP will not assist the consumer if you call them, The story you get is "have you dealer call p@a on the secret bat phone and everything will be just fine. " The manuals for the I-Command suck and if BRP spent a fraction of the money they put into those commercials on manuals and customer service, It would be the best overall.
repowered with a 225hp etec late last season. Goobs of torque ! I did had 1 alarm went off (no oil). Turned off the motor and then restarted. Problem went away. Since it was a repower job, i think I sucked in an air bubble ???
The only complaint I have is during slow trolling (2.5 - 3.0 mph) It would seem to get out of gear. Even though it was still in gear. This occurs about 35 to 45 minutes into trolling.
Shop diagnosed the problem and sending back EMM to manufacturer.
Should get my boat back some time next week.
Other than that the motor runs very strong. I am getting about 2.5 mpg on it.
I'm out here in san francisco bay area and the shop (outboard motor shop) is close by. Never had a problem with them and very customer oriented.
I twn e-tec 200's with right at 400 hrs & they have only been in the shop one time & that was for the 300 hr service.they are quiet ,powerfulstingy on gas , uses very little oil , & are very smooth operating. most of the problems i have seen with e-tecs have to do with improper set up by unqualified techs.the days of a shade tree tech are coming to an end. if your dealer (of any brand) does not have their tech properly trained your asking for problems. if you don't have a good dealer or qualified tech don't buy one ...but that goes for any engine .good luck with your choice.
ETEC offerings are from 40 thru 250. In the next 2 weeks we will see what is new comming out for this year comming up. Cost of ownership is the oil that is used dring the year, some grease for the grease fittings and prop shaft, and a can of CRC to spray the powerhead down if used in salwater. Every three years or 300 hours you will need, waterpump, gearlube, sparkplugs, thormos, and fuel filter. BRP support to the dealer is the best. Its up to the dealer to perform as well. It sad to say but many times the dealer does perform the way they should. seasickness we have had 2 larger ETEC's with this problem. The new EMM will solve the problem for you.
Barnacle Bills Marine,
Thanks for the info on the other large etecs having the same problem as mine. I am pretty happy with this new motor except for this minor problem. Since its not fishing time season as yet, I don't mind the shop taking there time to work on it.
What is the typical cost of the 300 hour service, shop labor and parts, Ball Park?
What service is required for seasonal layup! How often should the lower-unit fluid be changed? Also, are the prop-shaft seals prone to water intrusion? Had a MERC with fishing line around shaft, caused water to enter lower gearcase. Problem was discovered during winterization service, the repair was around $650.00.
The service on a V-6 ETEC will run you appox 650 to 750 with the parts and labor. Layup is greasing the propshaft, puting gease in the 3 grease fittings, spraying the powerhead with crc if used in saltwater, and running the enigne thru the winterizing mode which takes you less then 5 mins to do. The gearlube is a 300 hour gearlube that will withstand 35% water. But while your greasing your propshaft at the end of the year and you see string wrapped up you should check the gearlube for water. I do not know Mercury but I hope they did more then just change a propshaft seal for $650.00.. IF you would like a copy of the ETEC DVD pm me your address and I will get one out to you.
Consumer: 50 hours on 2007, E-Tec 115. No problems. Was running 2000 115 Ficht. New motor gave me 5mph on top end w/ same prop I was running. Hole shot great. Mucho more torque. I have some friends running Mercury Optimax that love them also, but they like mine alot cause they see increased power.
Twin 200 small blocks only 30 hours on each, quiet, ZERO really zero emissions, masses of torque, light, fuel consumption no better and no worse than the competition, very low oil use, great sound when pushed.
