Great looking boat. There are a lot of other CC to look at there. Like Whaler!
"Never enough time to do it right; ALWAYS enough time to do it over." Boston Whaler, "MUMBLER", 24' Outrage (1996), twin 175 HP Evinrude Ocean Pros. Snowball, the cat...
My wife and I have a 1995 24' Laguna FDC (Flush Deck Cuddy) with twin 150 mercs. Pretty nice fishing boat - very good hull, modest cuddy cabin. Heavy, but does trailer okay. We fish the rigs in the Gulf from Gulf Shores Alabama to Grand Isle Louisiana. I THINK we want to move up to 27-29 walkaround that we can weekend on.
I have a 1993 19' SeaRay CC Laguna. Bought it brand new in 93. Awesome finish, awesome construction, and awesome reliability. I knew nothing about SeaRay or the Laguna line when I bought this boat, but all I can say is that this boat has stood the test of time. Too bad the Laguna series was discontinued several years ago. If you find a suitable SeaRay Laguna series that meet your needs. Buy it!! You will not regret it. I'll be moving up to a KenCraft 235 CC, but man have I had a killer time offshore out of Cape Lookout NC in my little SeaRay Laguna. She thinks she’s a 30 footer :}
I just sold mine a couple of months ago. It also was the 19-CC with a 125 Merc. GREAT boat. Lot's of storage. Good layout/Heavy well built boat. Buy it! You won't be sorry...
I have a '90 23 (or 24') with twin 135 Mercs. I agree it is an awesome boat, more storage than nost 26 footers and built to take a pounding. Walk in console, a rare find for a boat that old. Rock solid, roomy, well laid out. I agree the 23 with twin 115's is underpowered. Mine gets 45+ WOT with the twin 135's. Bildge access is tough but that's my only complaint.
Mine is FOR SALE and I'll make someone a deal, The new 23 Yellowfin is on the way and I need the money!!!
I have a '90 23 Flush Deck with twin 115's. I fish the Chesapeake bay and offshore from Chincoteague, VA. The boat rides good and is stable when anchored or drifting. It is a dry ride. The boat is well laid out without wasted space, storage is good. The fish boxes are OK, but won't hold a tuna. The bilge is accessible through a large (10" x 24"?) panel. The flush deck design makes the helm area very roomy, but the drawback is getting to the bow can be a difficult task. If you do get into some nasty seas, the cockpit drains well. The 115's are too light for the boat, so the result is I run them harder than I probably should. Overall it is a very good boat, I have had mine over 5 years and plan to keep it for a while longer.
I have a 92 w/ t135s. Its the cuddy version, and I agree w/ what was said above, it could be a chore to go forward in seas, so I added a radar arch, which gave me something solid to grab when climbing forward. It has been a fishing machine for me, I've fished her in lake Mich for king salmon, the Ches bay for stripers and blues and the atlantic (up to 60mi out) for tuna/mahi/marlin. I've had her for about 5 years and have no regrets, but I've moved up and will be selling her this spring, email me (pete@aharinc.com) if you're interested - and Wiley if thats a no-no, please just delete my post.
Great boats, hope you find one that meets your needs.
I have a 93 21 ft. walkaround with a 200 merc. It is an awesome boat. It handles 2-3 footers no problem and only draws 12 inches. There is not even one stress crack and the glass still shines. I was looking for a new boat, but the hardware is so much better on this boat that I bought used instead. I had a 20 ft. hydrasport that I loved and this boat is MUCH better. I would highly recommend the laguna.
Do it...I fished the 20-21 offshore for 5 yrs and it was great. The only downside was the Merc motor (you know the black vs red stator thing)and bowpulpit hitting the trailer when launching. The fwd fish box was inconvenient and the built-in lure boxes wouldn't stay dry. None of the reasons were bad enough to give this boat bad marks.
I've been following resales on Lagunas for years and they are high, high and higher! You do know Lagunas were under the same unbrella as BW and discountinued when that marriage took place.
I hate sea rays. Really. My father had two of them, a friend has one now and they are basically bubble boats with high centers of gravity, mostly raw water cooled mercruisers and designed for the wife to allow you to buy. I dont mean to offend anyone of course. I am a fisherman, so my opinion is based upon the fisability and sea handling capabilities of boats, and its pretty clear that most Sea Rays are not designed with me in mind.
That being said, the Laguna is, imo the best boat they ever made. Especially the 21. It has an awesome layout, a great transom box with washdowns and a walk through area on the transom that allows great access at the dock. Up in the bow is about the largest, deepest storage box you will see in a boat this size. Literally, you can climb down into it and shut the hatch above you. you can store 20 rods down there.
It rides good too, if you can tolerate the noisiness of that Merc on the back, which by the way is actually pretty reliable.
