Random Quote: We must be near land, we had just enough gas to make it and we're out of gas!
My wife and I are looking at a 2000 29' Mako that is powered by twin Mercury 225 Optimax's with 300 hours. Any feedback on these engines? This will be our first boat and I want to go into this as educated and informed as possible. Thanks.
the optimax motors did have some early problems. You need to get a computer readout on both motors and get the repair history to see if they have had problems. The optimax is now one of the best motors out there but 2000-2001 was not the best year. Do a search on THT and you will get plenty of reading. I think most of the problesm were fuel rail or injector related buw did cause a lot of powerheads to blow. I have a pair of 2002 225 opti''s and love the power and fuel economy but just finished getting my second powerhead replaced under warranty. I SHould be good to go now but it's no fun having the boat in the shop all the time
