You can almost buy a 36YF or 36 Contender with tripples for the scratch they are asking for a 28 foot boat rebadged as a 32. At least you could a 31 with a pair of HUGE twins, the best electronics and have enough left over for a nice dually.
Caveat- I love whalers, but that pig is small and overpriced for what you get and what they are advertising.
Had a chance to climb on the 32 Outrage at the boat show this past weekend. Was a beautiful boat, ans was well laid out. It seemed similiar in size to my 35 Scarab Sport, not small at all. It was listed at 165K with twin Four strokes. Whaler is definitely proud of its name..
Saw the Whaler at the Mobile boat show. I was very impressed with the layout and the amenities. I was surprised that when I walked around on the deck that many of the storage compartments and fish boxes creaked when stepped on. Maybe this is an adjustment that is made when you purchase the boat. Nice boat with the Merc X engines. Mighty proud of the price. I think around 175 to 180K.
Thanks for the replys, MassOutrage I will be looking for thoses reports. I've owned 3 whalers before & a 25 outrage now, ready to move to a larger boat. I believe that most whaler owners have a hard time seeing themselves in anything but a whaler, much like myself. I was extremely happy to see a larger outrage from whaler. Althought that 330 from World Cat is a hell of a boat.
Whaler's prices are out of line, all you're paying for is the name. I would put them in the same class as Pursuit or Grady White, which also ask a lot for their stickers on the side. They are usinkable though . There are a lot of better boats out there for less money. For example, 34 Sea Vee - 160k with triples, 34 Fountain - 160k with triples, 36 Yellowfin - 180k with triples, and the list goes on. That's just my opinion from an industry stand point, Whaler asks an aweful lot for all that foam! For 25k more than the 225k boat, you could have a new 35 Revenge with the best construction around these days. Anyway you like at it though, that's a lotta jing!
Trophy, getting the 32 with the twin 250 proj x motors. Tried to get it with the 300 HPDIs but whaler will absolutly not ship without merc. looking forward to the proj x's from all i've read
Whaler won't ship w/out Merc's because Brunswick aka Whaler, Merc, Sea Ray, Bombardier, Robalo, and etc are owned by Brunswick. However, if you want Yammies, it can be done but is difficult.

The local dealer has had a powder green one sitting out front for a few weeks. The thing has a pair of 250s on it. Awesome boat. Hate to think what the local price is with the 33% import tax that has to be paid on all boats. Gotta be well over 250K! Then there is the little matter of feeding those beasts on the back at $5.50/gal! You can't even sleep on it!. I'll stick with my 3gph average single diesel 32' boat thanks.
Whaler has never been the same since they left Rockland,Ma. They were affordable in line with the way prices were back then. Buying one now makes no economic sense at all. The problem is (And you could say smart marketing through the years by BW) the public perceives the Whaler as the only "unsinkable" boat on the market when there are actually more makers who can claim that.
In 1970 I purchased this BW for $1400.00 ! Boat, motor and trailer! The hull is a little faded but she still slaps the waves like she was new.
My "big" boat, a Sea Pro 21' W/A, it's hull construction is similar to BW with a foam core. The biggest difference is the price. Almost 1/3 of a BW! If more new boat owners realize this, maybe their sales would drop off and Whaler would finally price them more fairly to stay competitive.
