Default Suzuki 175 or Suzuki 200-is performance worth weight difference

I am purchasing a 21 ft cc and am trying to decide whether to go with 175df or 200df suzuki. Is the performance going to be that much better with the 200? The 200 weighs around 100 more lbs. Is the weight difference worth the performance? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

DF175 with a 16" X 18.5" prop!

Make sure this gets taken care of before taking delivery...

The boat did 44 with a 150 Yamaha. A 175 should be fine.

sctide........ I bought a Bluewater 2150 last year and dealt with the same question about additional weight. I ended up with the DF175 and am happy with the decision. At WOT on flat water I get around 45 statute mph and there is little delay getting up on plane even when loaded down. I generally run 15 to 40 miles to where I fish and then troll between 7 - 10 mph. Combination running and trolling with the 175 I get 3.3 statute mpg. Between February and December last year I put 850 hours on the boat/motor without a hiccup. I run a 3x16x20 prop.

sctide..I just repowered at Wellcraft 210 Sportsman with the DF175. Had a 225 Evinrude OceanPro on prior. I couldn't be happier. Running a 16 x 19 prop was able to generate 46 mph at 5800 rpms, 2 mph faster than it ran with the Evinrude. I was amazed at how quickly the boat got up on plane.

I had a 200 ocean pro on a 206-G Grady and replaced it with a 175 Merc, the merc got better gas milage but just that 25 hp change made coming in in a following sea a little different, the 200 would easily pop out of the wave and it took more noticable time for the 175 to do it.

What do you think the top speed will be with each motor? 175? and 200?

Also consider that the 175 is the same displacement and engine as the 150 with some additional fueling to squeak out some more horse power so you will be working that engine hard to get the 175 hp. The 200 is a whole jump up in engine displacement and weight which is shared with the 225 and 250 so if you can handle the extra 95 lbs in weight you get an engine that will cruise without breaking a sweat, better mileage and longer life. Now that engine will have tons of top speed so you can prop it to sacrafice some top end and get excellent out of the hole and lower speed planing which makes it a safer machine in the nasty following seas.

The DF175 has Variable Valve Timing (VVT) which the DF150 doesn't, so it's not just additional fueling.

At 2,867 cc it's not a small 175hp either.

To answer the original question I would go with the DF175. With less wieght over the transom the hull should handle better.
