1) Since both of these are pretty dependable motors, which one get's better fuel numbers , and which one weigh's less ???.....
2) If a boat is already rigged for a Merc, I realize that it's easier to go with a Merc motor when upgradeing , but how much harder/ more expensive is it to go with a Suzuki DF ???....Thanks, Jim
Both are very good engines with that said if you are rigged with merc you may have agood relationship with a merc dealer go that rout.
I doubt you will notice much difference in gas usage. The merc is lighter but noiser while the suzuki heavier but quieter.good luck
the new mercs are allot quieter than the older ones.the zuke is still quieter.no big difference in fuel mileage if any.if i had merc controls i would use a merc save you a least a 1000.00.if you do go with a zuke check service out locally cuz they really suck around here.that has turned me away from them totally
Well, I speak from experience with the noise..... I switched from a Suzy DT150 to a 225 Opti Pro XS. Te Suzy is definately louder than the Opti. This is both in the water and out on the muffs. All controls and cables had to be changed over to Mercury cables because they were not interchangeable. The job wasn't too difficult as my brother in law and I switched motors in two days... working about 5 hours each day.
The Opti may be quieter than the DT150 (2 stroke), but the DF225 (the motor in question) is a 4 stroker, and hands down quieter than an Opti-Pop. Go with your gut and availability of service ...

quieter.heaver,slower.less hp.no better mileage, and lousy customer service.gee you win in all categories
Especially in the one that counts - it ain't made by a bowling ball manufacturer, and would be running on the original powerhead long after the Opti has popped. The Merc will be almost silent, though, and the mileage on the tow-in will be almost unbelievable ...
Hey Arlon,
How are you ??....I'm going to sell my 225 3.0 that I have on my C.C. and repower with a new Opti .....I'm still looking for a deal for a Panga , and working on one as I write this... I should know soon ....Jim
