Random Quote: Did it broke or did it just come undid?
Out of gear it runs smooth,If i give it just a tad bit of gas (1000 rps)
it runs great. Thats the only complaint i have.
It rattles the dam rails on my boat like a washer out of balance. I've tried a few different props and at this timeit has a Honda turbo prop. 14.25 X 17 pitch 4 blade stainless.
Anybody else has this same symptom? thanks
My 2005 BF150 is smooth with the 14.25 x 19 three blade prop. Never had any problems with it. Have you had your dealer look at it? Are you sure it's a prop issue?

Doesn't sound like a prop issue , see your dealer.
Where are you.

Iam in san diego
I was thinking the same thing,(prop shaft ). When i went for a sea trail the dealer said it was normal just give it a bit of gas. Struck me as odd, new engine idles rough is normal? the dealer is a long way away so i might have to see someone else. It was one of those dent and scatch specials hmmm.
I was hoping to avoid problems. Sucks Just seems everytime have someone do something i get Sc----d or something.
The more i think about it seems like its got to be the drive train as it only happens when the prop is turning. If it was the mounts would'nt it still do it at higher speed also?

I got the same answer to the same issue on a 140 HP Johnson (Suzuki). The dealer said "they all do it." I intend to pursue it further. The motor runs great otherwise. It just has a vibration when in gear at idle. I have a three blade Bombardier SST.
190 Outrage,
Yes it vibrates with both the 3 blade or 4 blade. I was thinking balance issue with props but all 4? Other then rough idle in gear runs smooth at all other rpms in gear . I don't really want to go back to this dealer as its far and if he feels this is normal then he won't look to correct it. Iam thinking about another dealer for a second opinion as i feel its not normal. Heck ,my original 87 150 Yamaha VRO that smoked a lot did idle rough at all!!! Iam not to happy but iam not going to slam anyone yet.
When I first got mine, one of the props I tried a Mirage 15 1/2 x 17...great performance, but rattled just like yours...went to a Power Tech (for Honda) 15 1/4 x 17 and all problems went away...it was determined the Mirage was too heavy and caused the rattle (like a 4-blade might be) ... if you can get your hands on a Power Tech 15 1/4 x 17, it'll probably work for you...
Yeah, I've got 2 x bf150's, they rattled big time with Rev 4 props. Changed back to Stilettos, no rattle. The 4 blades would rattle at idle speed in gear, quit around 1000 rpm. I think reelapeelin is giving you good advice, the Power Tech props have a cushioned hub in em too.
Ok guys
what i meant to say was my Yamaha 150 smoked a lot ,had a mean crackle but did'nt shake my fillings loose. Maybe your on to something as far as the weight is concerned. That prop feels like 15 pounds. The power tech prop your talking about, is that sold by honda? They have an off shore type of 4 blade with a rubber hub on their website. Or should i go to power tech and get this prop. Is it a 4 blade? i really like the way the boat performs with this set up other then the vibration.
Let's clarify a few things first. The vibration you are referring to is (I suspect) the phenomena known as "prop rattle" and not a harmonic vibration that sets up at certain specific RPM ranges. Is that correct?
Prop rattle is a common problem. Four stroke outboards with heavy stainless steel propeller are especially prone to prop rattle. Prop rattle is caused by the inertia of a heavy propeller getting out of sync with the power pulses of the cylinders firing. The rattle is caused by components in the drive train loading and unloading at idle speed.
Unfortunately, in your case there is not much you can do about it with you current Turbo propeller given it's fixed hub. Mercury Flo-Torq propellers can use the new Flo-Torq III or Flo-Torq IV hub kits that are specifically designed to eliminate prop rattle. The two piece Flo-Torq III and IV are spring loaded to help absorb and dampen the imbalance. They also help dampen the "shift clunk" we experience when shifting into gear with a heavy propeller.
Don't hold your breath on the Rev 4 with X7 alloy, it's not coming any time soon. Do get your hands on a Mercury Flo-Torq IV hub kit. That should solve your problem.
The 3 blade 15 1/4 X 17 Powertech Offshore (sold through Honda Marine) I have on my motor is pretty heavy but has a cushioned hub and does not rattle. Tom Clark explains prop rattle great and if you can get your hands on a prop with a cushioned hub or one with the Flo-Torq III or Flo-Torq IV hub kits, the problem may go away.
we got a new bf 150 last year ,
We have 500hrs on it already.
It always rattles like that in gear under 1000 rpm.
i guess it is not a wear issue, so I am not worried
