Default HP Required for GW

I plan on repowering a 20 foot Grady White Weekender. It now has a 2 stroke 175 on it. Can I get by with a 150 HP Four stoke? Yamaha does not have a 175 and I hate to jump to 200 HP.

Depends on how you use it...if you don't pull skiers and don't care about hitting 40 mph, the F150 will be all right.

I'd hunt for a 200 HPDI....they are great motors and its a good fit on that hull.

I would second the 200 HPDI recommendation. Repowered my 20' Overnighter with one in 2002. Great engine and great match for the boat. The extra HP allows a good cruise speed while keeping the engine in the "sweet spot".

I have a 1999 GW 20' walkaround (208 Adventure) that I repowered in 2006 from a 200 hp Mercury Optimax (a competitor to the Yamaha 200 HPDI) to a 150 hp Mercury Verado (a 4-stroke that competes with the Yamaha F150). The performance is fine with a top end of 38 mph, whereas the 200 produced about 42 mph. You can plan on getting about 3.8 mpg at cruise with a 4-stroke 150.
