I dont know why I've never noticed this before, but I took my aluminum boat (G3 2072 cc) out fishing today. When I got back home I started to wash it. I found something at the rear and on the bottom of the hull. At first it scared the heck out of me because I thought I had put one hell of a hook in my hull. Upon closer inspection I found that what I thought was damage was actually intentionally put there at the factory. It was a 1"X6" aluminum wedge welded in place. I checked the other side and sure enough I had one there too. The wedges flare downward about a 1/4" and the design of them would seem to assist in lifting the stern.
Is this a common feature for aluminum boats? Prior to adjusting my engine height and adding a permatrim I had quite a problem with porposing. I am wondering if these wedges contributed to the porposing or prevented it from being worse?
Thanks for any input
