Pulled a deer dog off the highway here today has a
Longbranch Club collar along with a pretty snazzy GPS
collar, the area code is 904 but nobody answers. If anybody can provide me some insight we'd appreciate it.
I did find that the collar fits my 17 year old son perfectly

Wow. That's totally unheard of up here in Pennsylvania.*As a matter of fact, it used to state in the rules and regs book, to shoot dogs that are chasing deer. Don't know if they're still printing that in the rules and regs book or not. I haven't bought a license in a 1/2 dozen years or so.
I know I couldn't bring myself to shoot a dog. Only if it were a matter of self defense would I consider doing that.

Thanks for the replys....guy called back from his caller ID last night, he was most concerned about
getting the collar back as "it's real darn expensive", the dog is alive and will be fine eventually but
the vet estimated that it was at least 20 lbs underweight and in general rough shape. The story is he came from St Augustine to a deer drive up here 3 days ago at one of the big plantations and the dog
checked out.....as a constant foster home for everything from horses, dogs to ducks, my wife and
I were apalled that they would treat the dogs this way, it didn't lose 20lbs in 3 days for instance.
Another odd thing, he's so weak he couldn't run from the kitchen to the garage right now, much less
chase a deer. Told the guy I would be in touch.
Here in N Carolina we use deer dogs in some counties. The dogs chase the deer out of the swamps where it is almost impossible to get them out into the open otherwise. We use hounds/walkers and beagles, amazing how a beagle can stay on a deer though the swamp with those short little legs. I haven't hunted in 2 years and I believe I miss watching and listening to the dogs work more than I miss the actual hunting. I don't miss dragging deer 1/2 mile out of the swamp to a 4 wheeler
Here in La it is common practice to acquire dogs for the hunting season, use them, run the he!! out of them and then abandon them at the end of the hunt or season.

I hunted deer with dogs for many years, and it was common to loose a dog for a few days when the dog would chase the deer into the next county.
Our dogs always ended up returning to wherever we started the hunt, and we never lost one.
I take it that the vet said the dog hadn't been physically injured.
If the poor dog is in bad shape and severely under nurished don't return him to his so-called owner.
A deer dog should be a lean, mean running machine, but would never severely under nurished after only three days without owner care.
in season a good deer dog cost from 600 to 2500 dollars most take care of them.i could not imagine any one leaving it for no reason.i know alot that hunt up that way from st aug.
For you that said to give the dog to a new home..etc.... that would be a crime. If the dog were worth what tommt904 said it could be a felony. If you think the dog has been abused, then contact the law.In some places stealing a mans hunting dog will get you shot!!
