Default Fishing intercoastal between Titusville and Cocoa Beach ?

Just found out today that we're going to Orlando the end of February. Was thinking about trying to fit a 1/2 day of saltwater fishing in while we're down there. Problem is, my 11 year old gets sick easy on rough water. So I'd need to stay on the intercoastal if we were to go on a charter. Are there any good fishing opportunities and charter capts on the intercoastal between, say Titusville and Cocoa Beach?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

Brad

Get a charter and fish the Mosquito Lagoon. Its at Titusville and the fishing there is usually great. I used Rob Blake but I think he moved to the Keys or somewhere and Scott Macalla took over his charter business. www.redfishonfly.com. Also go to the florida sportsman website, post there on the Forum on East Central. They can refer you to others as well. The Lagoon or the Indian River Should be great. When fishing the Lagoon or the IRL at Titusville you can see the Kennedy Space Center Launch pads as well as the Vehicle Assembly building. If you haven't been there, its a great tour as well. I get annual passes and my wife and 2 sons 7 and 9 years old go there all the time. By the way on the Redfishonfly website is a picture of my Dad with a 45 inch red. A replica mount now hangs in his cabin in California.

I went down a couple of months ago and helped my niece and her boyfriend move a sailboat from Melborne to St. Augustine. We spent the first night in Titusville, and the water there in the anchorage was the most phosphorescent, or luminous, that I have ever seen anywhere in the world. We were leaving the marina after dark, and the propwash from the dinghy lit up the transom like a floodlight. Then we started running through schools of bait fish, and it was like underwater fireworks. It was a dark night, you could hardly see the boats in the anchorage, or the channel markers, but every splash that touched the water made a flash of light. Back on the boat I started throwing a jig, and you could trace the line and the jig through the water all the way back to the boat. You could write your name in the water taking a whiz off the boat. Is this a regular occurance in that area?
BTW, Mosquito Lagoon looked very fishy.

Ditto on the advice about Mosquito Lagoon. Great fishery, great scenery and your son will be comfortable. There is a guide posting reports in the FL section.

Checking out the Cape is an added bonus.

Enjoy

I would suggest visiting http:\\www.get1charters.com . I have fished with Bryan before and he knows the area like the back of his hand. He will put you on fish. Good Luck with your visit to Florida and the quicker out of Orlando the better.

Great area. I always go with Capt Jon Lulay.

Winter is hit or miss in the lagoon. You just need a calm sunny day to bing the Reds up on the flats.

Grew up in that area. Very good intracoastal fishing, Sea Trout, Black Drum, Sheepshead, but the big prize are giant Redfish that are the reddest you will ever see. Both in Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River.

Not the best time of the year. But still can catch some fish.

The phosphorus is not a normal occurence. Actually the lagoon is very large and varies a lot depending on the part of it that you are on. Some parts will be clear as a swimming pool and other parts can be quite cloudy.

Bring a camera you will see a lot of manatees and dolphin this time of year.

So not true .
In the winter we gat clear water compared to the summer. This means long casts for site fishing . If you can see the fish this time of year he can see you. The best option this time of year is to use cut up chunks of ladyfish of mullet.
