Default carolina classic or steiger???

i am looking to move up from my current center console to something alittle bigger and more comfortable. something that will offer me alittle more protection up here in the northeast. i am looking in the 25-26 ft range, and am seriously considering the steigercraft 26 ft miami. The steiger is 26 ft in length, 10 ft on the beam, 22 degree deadrise at the transom, and weighs close to 10,000 lbs. I am also considering the carolina classic 25. The carolina classic is quite a bit smaller, 25 ft in length and 8ft 6 inches on the beam. the carolina classic has 24 degrees of deadrise at the transom and weighs close to 8,000 lbs. i am looking to fish the boat 20-40 miles offhsore pretty regularly. i plan on sea trialing both boats, but i was also hoping to get some input on the ride, construction, etc... of both boats. thanks in advance.

I don't know much about the Steiger but I am all the way with the CC25. The CC25 is a TANK in rough water & is plenty to get you 20-40 miles out. I recomend the diesel it barely sips the fuel. Charlie

I saw the 26 Steiger Miami in the parking lot outside the Edison Boat Show this past spring. Gorgeous. Looks 50 feet. All I can imagine is a smooth deep-v kind of ride. I think it was about 100k, which seemed real reasonable for that kind of tank. My guess is its too new for you to get too many opinions of owners, but I hope I am wrong. I saw none this summer and fall on the water on the Jersey shore.

You can probably get the 26 Steiger with twin outboards for roughly the same money as the single CC25. If you are going to do any drifting the Steiger will handle that better than the CC. Construction is comparable between the 2 IMO. (I own a CC and I have been to the Steiger factory). So to answer your question, If I were you I'd get the Steiger.

I used to sell Steigers, and would buy the CC. Or look at a Shammie!!! Notice I said, I used to sell Steigers. All of the ones that came through my dealership, (now mind youit has been a few years) were terrible on gas, and they rode terrible. All of The CC's I have ridden on, were comfortable. The 25 has way more room than you think. Shamrock has a great new 26' the Mariner out, also a 26' Cuddy/Center Console is in the works.

I can't comment on the Steigers, but I love my 25 CC.

I second a diesel. The Yanmar 315 or the Volvo 300, the smaller Volvos are a bit underpowered on this hull. Those motors will get about 3 mpg at a cruise of 26-28 knots. The gas models get 1.25 to 1.5 mpg at a cruise of 28-30 knots.

Dry weight is listed at 8,500 lbs, you'll be over 10,000 lbs fueled and loaded to fish.

You now have the option of a traight inboard on the Carolina. That's the only way I would go if it is going to be slip kept. You'll loose about 10% on cruise and fuel economy according to Mac.

An I/O diesel optioned out without a trailer will run you around $90,000, a bare bones gas inboard is around $70,000.

I own the CC 25. I prefer an inboard with no outboards in the way of fishing off the transom. The diesel option, while more expensive, will pay back in fuel savings over time.

Check out the performance chart in my photo album (for the KAD 300 Volvo Diesel). It's hard to beat for a boat that weighs 8500 lbs. dry.

By the way, the 8.5' beam could be a disadvantage unless you want the option to trailer this boat. It was built for offshore use and the ability to transport on the trailer for maximum mobility. If you don't plan to trailer, it certainly would be more attractive to have a 10' beam boat.

I don't trailer but I couldn't resist the CC hull. It has served me well.

Steiger makes boats with deadrises from 14 to 22 degrees, with and without bracket, and also I/O. the comments about the ride are meaningless unless the poster says what model and configuration they were running. This post is about the 26, which has a 22 degree deadrise, and has only been out for a few years.

don't know what he means by slamming and stern heavy...
I took a ride in 3ft seas in a friends 23 PH and in handled the chop
very well. Its a heavy boat and with tabs cuts right through it.
Will be looking at that boat or the 25 Maycraft next year...(possibly the Parker as well).

What size and style boat did you fish on? The 26' has only been available for about 3 yrs I believe, And does your buddy know how to use trim tabs?

I can't comment on the ride of either boat, but they are both built like a brick sh!t house, very well built.

I guess now he sells Shammie's! Not too surprising to trash what you used to sell!

I think my Steiger 21 DV Block Island is a great sea boat for it's size. It just keeps impressing me. Built like a tank, 3400 lbs. dry no engine! My 23 Regulator was 3800 lbs. and that was a big 23. The 26 Steiger is huge and supposed to be an incredible riding boat.

Also the service at Steiger is the best I have ever seen.

GO WITH THE STEIGER!!!

Default Spammer???

Maybe you should do a little homework. Nothing makes me more upset than people trashing other people and calling them spammers without doing a little bit of research. Scoffshore said he used to sell boats. He doesn't anymore, I know because I just searched all of his old posts and he talks about his job, he works for a developer. It takes 10 seconds to check up on someone. Second he is a member at Fish the Classic and posts often there. He has an Old Shamrock, and is certainly not a dealer, and doesn't work for one. I think that you owe him an apology. He said nothing rude and only stated his opinion. Are you a spammer? Do you work for a Dealer, is that why you went on the offensive? I don't know, but I sure think that you shouldn't attack someone personally and call them a spammer unless you are willing to do a little bit of homework. I currently am without boat, and frequent this site and the Fish The Classic site. I agree that I think that the Shamrock is a better boat and that will probably be my next boat. Steigers are fine boats but they are not in the same class as Shamrocks or Carolina Classics. Steigers are wet, and some of the Models pound. Sorry but that is the truth. Maybe that isn't an issue for this person and it will certainly be less money than the Carolina. Steiger builds a fine boat and maybe this new 26 rides great, I don't know, I haven't been in one. I just can not understand why these posts have to get so nasty! That is the one thing that I dislike about these types of boards. I know it won't change, but sure wish that it would.

I DO NOT OWE ANYONE AN APPOLOGY! I WAS NOT NASTY, I DID NOT INSULT ANYONE. YOU TALK ABOUT DOOING HOMEWORK? YOUR FRIEND SAID THAT ALL STEIGERS POUND AND ARE BAD FUEL CONSUMPTION WISE! DID HE EVER RIDE THE 26 OR MY DV 21? HOW ABOUT YOU? THEY ARE WET AND POUND WAS WHAT YOU SAID. YOU SHOW ME A BOAT THAT DOES NOT PUND IF NOT DRIVEN PROPERLY! I HAD A 23 REGULATOR AND IT WOULD POUND UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS!!! AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW WET THE BOAT WAS. MABE YOU SHOULD DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

STEIGER MAKES A COUPLE OF BOATS DESIGNED FOR THE BAYS, OTHERS ARE DEEP V MODELS.

I AM VERY PROUD OF MY STEIGER. ALSO ALAN STEIGER IS ONE OF THE BEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET. I BROUGHT MY BOAT IN FOR 20 HOUR SERVICE ON THE ENGINE. ALAN HAD HIS PEOPLE TOUCH UP A PINSTRIPE THAT WAS DAMAGED BY A BOAT BUMPER RUBBING UP AGAINST IT! I BROUGHT IT IN TO BE WINTERIZED AND ALAN HAD IT WASHED, WAXED AND BOTTOM PAINTED it FOR ME! ALSO I WATCHED IT BEING BUILT, AND THEY TOOK PICTURES FOR ME WHEN I COULD NOT BE THERE.

LIKE I SAID, I AM VERY PROUD OF MY BOAT. I TAKE EXCEPTION TO THE COMMENTS YOU AND YOUR FRIEND MADE.

BOTTOM LINE STEIGER IS A GREAT BOAT AND THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEM ARE THE BEST.

Why are people so defensive about the boats they own. He!! we used to have a 20ft Chrysler with a 135hp Chrysler OB. I will not argue with anyone that says it was wet, poor ride, low qlty, ... BUT it got us on the water for many hours and we caught many fish. That is it! Does the boat meet "your" need, not everyone elses image or opinion of what "you" should have.

The people I knew that had Steiger bought them because they offered larger boats (20+ ft) with shallow drafts so that allowed them to get their boat into the 2ft deep creeks that they lived on/near.

It looks like talking bad about a boat line is fighting words.

It's like I told a friend of mine who couldn't understand why I'm not as fanatical about our college alma mater's football team as he is. I said, "Until someone pays me to get into a fight over a football game I just don't see the logic in it. Since I have yet to receive a check, I'm not going to fight over a game".

Getting so upset just to defend a company or someone you paid YOUR money to just doesn't make sense. You obviously like your boat (you paid for it) so enjoy it!

Do you really care what someone else thinks about your boat choice? I know I don't!

First of all he is not my friend, I don't know him. I have just seen his posts here and at the shamrock site. I said that I think you owe him an apology for calling him a Spammer and saying he is a boat salesman. If you were right you wouldn't have any need for an apology. I have no problem with you defending your boat and your boat brand. I do have a problem with taking it to a personal attack without having your facts straight. If you want to say that you think that his Shamrock is a piece of garbage, pounds and is a terrible boat, have at it. He insulted your boat, not you. You insulted him, not his boat. There is a big difference in my opinion. I know that this is distracting from the gentlemens original post that had a simple question about two different boats he was looking at. To him I apologize for distracting from that. I am done with my soapbox.

My father won the Steiger Craft Club website fishing contest for 06 and the prize for the biggest fish overall is a fishing trip with Alan on his 26'. I'll let you all know about the ride this coming spring.

With all the reference to pounding 1 thing to remember is that with a pilothouse style boat, the cabin and helm are located a bit farther forward than most boats wich would cause more of the sea conditions to felt by the crew, and is a trait common in that style of boat. The use of trim tabs helps. And the ride in a pilothouse is always dry.

OK fellas, I was not trying to insult anyone or beat anybody up. I just dont think it is fare to say a blanket statement like that. I hope all involved in this thread understand I did not intend to insult you. If my statements did offend then I do say I'm sorry.

My opinion is that my boat, a 21 DV Steiger is a real nice 21 footer. Someone else might not like it that much. I had a great boat buying experience with it, and continue to have good experiences with there service. I do not work for Steiger nor am I affiliated with them in any way. I am a painting contractor.

I will post a report on the 26 that I read on this site. I do not know how to create a link to it.

Jamesbfishin, i think your Dad's fish beat mine, I had a 20 lb bass. He blew me away with the 42#, I won the Weakfish catagory though.

Tight lines, Hookem
